Jesse Williams benching 600 lbs

To put this into perspective, as best as I can tell from the picture, Jesse's not wearing a bench press shirt. As far as I can tell through limited research, although the unshirted world record sits well above 600lbs at 715lbs, 600lbs or more has only been pressed 58 times in the world previous to Jesse's lift. He's in rare company.

Incredible - anybody know the previous record for a Bama player?

Guess I'm a bit surprised the trainers let him try it. Certainly don't need any muscle strains...

Hulk smash.

Would you be brave enough to tell a guy that is capable of lifting you with one hand and tossing you like a rag doll that he is not allowed to try something? On the other hand, I think it would be hilarous if a senior trainer told a 140lb freshman volunteer trainer to go tell Jessie he wasn't allowed to attempt that lift ...

Is he going to play nose tackle or DE, or alternate somehow? I guess the job of a NT is to "press" two guys - a 275 pound Center and a 300 pound Guard, so he'll be all set!

Apparently Cade Foster threw up 455.
This picture went viral the summer before his Freshman year. We shouldn't be surprised since he was the starting MLB for Southlake Carroll High School.

According to This List of the 10 strongest college football players of last year, Josh Chapman could bench 580. I find it interesting that Bama players occupy 2 of the 10 names on the list, the other being TR of course. Throw JW into the list for this year, and it says something about the quality we have in Coach Cochran.

I dont know the BP record for Bama players but I remember back in the Franchione era that we had several receivers that BP over 400#. Seems like I remember seeing Anthony Bryant squat something like 915# - setting the record for Bama players.

Cody wasn't known for his upper-body strength (I think around 400lb ?), but his lower body strength was impressive. He squats in the 660-700 range.

Squat is where it's at. Saw a video not too long ago of a guy saying that while guys perceive bench and as the "benchmark" for strength, when it comes to football, squat wins hands down. Said he could easily beat guys on the field that bench 100lbs or more than his max because his legs were much stronger than most of his opponents. I believe him.
