Jesse Williams benching 600 lbs

Just saw the photo and article of J. Williams pressing 600 lbs. Guys, the bar was bending! The lineman from Memphis at the nfl pressed 500. Saw this on Yahoo sports.Sorry if this has already been posted!

is cochran there in the summer, i hope so. never forget the usc kid who almost killed himself 2 years agao.

Yes, he runs very strenuous workouts during the summer. He is on staff year round just like the rest of the coaches.

A proper spot, which is taught and stressed, would alleviate dangers while benching.

About a week after that happened, I heard Coach Cochran speak, and when he took questions, someone asked him about that. He said that he never took his hand off the bar.

Agreed, but I'd recommend at least 4 spots for 600 on the bar.

The term 'proper' differentiates depending on the weight. IMO, anymore than 3 people on a spot is too many. (1 person directly behind the lifter (the primary spotter), and 2 "emergency spotters" on each side of the bar). Obviously in a "max" lift no one would touch the bar in order for it to be a good lift.
