Actually I do. Never liked that either. I have always thought it was classless and unsportsmanlike. I usally keep that to myself though :) However, just the two words Hotty Toddy together is enough to put it over my edge and laugh at it.
As I've posted before, "Hotty Toddy" has nothing to do with drinking at all. It derived from the expression "Hoighty-Toighty" ("High and Mighty," as applied to someone "putting on airs"), which was still in general use when I was a kid. In the late 19th century, it had elided to "Hidey-Tidey," and then to "Hotty-Toddy." And I agree that the Rammer Jammer yell makes me cringe when it's applied to some team like the upcoming hapless FAU team. OTOH, I've enjoyed it when beating someone like AU or LSU. It wasn't around when I was in school from the mid-50s through the early 60s. In fact the school newspaper, the Rammer-Jammer, had just been discontinued a year or so before I entered...

LOL it may be High and Mighty, but it still sounds funny :biggrin2: Maybe now that they have that bear mascot they can add some grrrrrrr noises.

I can think of 2, and they both belong to Auburn:

1. Rolling your own trees when you win (then you have to clean it up).
2. Having a team named the tigers yet your chant is war eagle (and yes I've heard the story of the buzzard that flew over the field).

I agree with all of these. There's a huge difference in traditions and gimmicks. Too many teams try gimmicks these days.

The one I despise the most is the shaking of car keys. I never saw this ridiculosity until I lived up north, so maybe it's a northern thing. I suppose it means "game over, let's go home," but to me it means "I'm such a pansy I can't figure out how to appropriately yell for my team."
OK, I can help you out here. They do this at CU games, and I had no clue what was going on when I first started going (I was a grad student at CU from 2001 -2006, so I went to a bunch of games). They do the key thing when it is a "key play" in the game. As in, big 3rd down, we need a stop, it's a key play. Let's shake our keys. Silly, I know but that's the deal.

When we did it for basketball games, it was done in conjunction with the "Warm up the bus" chant as the away team was about to lose the game.

I agree with DiamondDust, I always saw it as mocking the opponent's acknowledgement of defeat by leaving the game early.

has anyone mentioned auburn rolling the trees after a win? Just want to throw it in there......
Seems to be the most popular at this point, but I'll throw out a couple of more (some have been mentioned):

The "Whoo Pig Suey" (or whatever ever it is) is just plain embarrassing! Do yall remember how silly Petrino looked the day the hired him and they did that at his opening press conference?

Rocky Top -- "gettin corn from a jar..." -- pretty silly and this isn't their fight song...nobody other than UT fans even know what it is.

The MSU cow bell things is weird too!

Somebody mentioned the "couch burning" at West Va. -- "let's celebrate by burning a couch" ???

One of my favorites the "Fighting Okra"

I've never liked Rama Jama because I consider it to be very very unsportsmanlike. I mean the game's over for goodness sakes. It's time to shake hands with our opponent and say "nice game".

Imagine if our players greeted the opposing team post game and said, "Man...we just beat the hell out of you guys" instead of congratulating them on their effort.

I know it will never change and it doesn't bug me but I've never even thought about being a participant in the cheer and never will.

sip

What you say is unpopular with most Bama fans, but I agree.

Just wait until we start going to play Texas A&M. I'm telling you guys...it's bizarro-world.

Too many times, fans overrate their importance. Those who are opposed to Rammer Jammer because of "sportsmanship" are guilty of it.

I would not want our players to greet other players that way after a game. But fans are not players.

JMO.
