****Bama vs. LSU Postgame Thread***

I just really wonder about bias against Alabama sometimes- not the first time we have seen something like this happen. Have no idea who these refs are and where they are from.Went back and watched the last 6 minutes of regulation and the overtimes- LSU players were on the line twice with the ball and kept possesion. With ref standing there looking at him. The Tide got called everytime they breathed on an LSU guy- and the Tigers were mugging on both ends of the court. Maybe I am completely off base with my Crimson-colored glasses on- but I do wonder if our success in football makes it harder for the basketball guys sometimes. Again-maybe I just want them to win too much and it seems that way.

I somewhat understand the sentiment of not letting a 10-point lead slipping away with 3 minutes left, but did anyone who is saying that in this postgame thread actually WATCH the game?
Every time down the floor, we got called for a ticky-tack or non-existent foul. I'd love to know how many of foul shots they had in the last three minutes of the game and how many we had. A huge factor in why we couldn't get a rebound in those decisive moments was because Moussa had fouled out (after picking up two questionable at-best foul calls in about a 10-second span earlier in the game) and Jacobs had to play the rest of the game on what appears to be one leg or with a severe back issue.
Couple that with LSU players climbing on our players backs like our jerseys are jungle gyms, running through and over our guys to get second chances and that's how the lead was lost.
I will say, Cooper's shot selection severely hampered our ability to win, but he made a handful of plays and shots to keep us in the game until the final buzzer.

Just my .02.
Very good analysis...

My wife just tried the "bias argument," but it doesn't wash. First, these guys are very likely from outside the South. Second the crews are formed up by our conference, so they're not working with the same guys every game, unlike our own SEC FB officials. They can't all have a nephew on the LSU team. I wish I could get corruption out of my mind, but I can't otherwise explain 29-8 in regulation. It's mind-boggling...

I was trying to follow the game on ESPN. They showed us winning 78-76 in one OT. Then this.
I think Mike Slive need to quit preening and get some decent refs in this league.

Earl- you have mentioned the word "corruption" several times now- and I have found you to be the most logical person on here with regards to perspective. I guess corruption and bias could be considered two different things. At best- these guys are incompetent.

Also- one does not have to be from the South to have bias against Alabama- plenty of "haters" from other parts of the country.

The refs blew two out of bounds calls in which the LSU players were in contact with the ball and touching out of bounds simultaneously.
Replay was clear on both blown calls. LSU scored baskets off both of these blown calls at the end of the game. Are these out of bound calls not reviewable?

You do understand that these guys might have all been from Ohio and may be reffing a Big 12 game on Tuesday?

I wish I could ascribe it to incompetence. That doesn't explain one team's being allowed to claw and hack and climb up the other team's backs while being awarded 29, count'em - 29, FTs while the other team gets 8 for the entire game in regulation. Having watched our guys point-shave (and get convicted for it) when I was a freshman may have stuck with me...

So then instead of basketball we have pro wrestling?
I used to question NBA reffing, but you can get a fair shake most of the time on the road these days.

Starting at 2:52 when Levi fouled and the last TV timeout:
Johnny O'Bryant had 2 FTs
2:52 Cooper fouls -- Carmouche makes 2 FTs
2:14 Levi fouls out -- Coleman makes 2 FTs
2:00 Jacobs fouls -- O'Braynt misses "and one"
0:54 Moussa fouls out -- O'Brant makes 2 FTs

In the last 3 minutes of the game, Alabama was called for 5 fouls, which lead to 9 LSU FTs. Alabama shot ZERO FTs in that time period because LSU was called for ZERO fouls.

But hey, Alabama shouldn't blow a 10 point lead according to guys like Travis Reier!

Everyone knows the refs can't review those types of plays. They have to waste 90 seconds to review a 1 second difference in the shot clock.

Pretty much. There haven't been conference officials in quite a while. As a practical matter, they're limited to a reasonable traveling distances. However, there have been several national articles in the last year or so about some of the refs taking on too many games out of greed. One guy reffed five games in a week. Nobody can do a decent job under those circumstances. However, that wasn't what we saw today...
