BCS Ranking Released

We have nothing to prove against Urban Meyer and barring a major turn of events OSU is not going to be in the NC conversation anyway, I don't care how many regular season games they continue to win. The best thing that can happen is we and the ducks win out so the national Oregon/Bama debate can be settled.

Expect to see LOTS of "style" points from the 2-3 teams the rest of the year.
Yup..And I hope we put up big numbers as well, I don't like doing it, but, it's what you have to do that's best for your football program..I say let the back-up's play & let them score if they can punch it in..I don't wanna embarrass any players, well, except for the Viles & Barners..LOL

I think the media wants Bama-Oregon to bill it as a referendum on football philosophy. The fact is that the same things that wins 50 years ago are the same things that win today. The only thing that changes is how it looks in executing it. I will admit that the tempo offense is something I don't think Rockne, Bryant, or Warner could have ever envisioned as a regular offense. The steady move towards specialization post-platoon era kinda led to it though. Defenses have just gotten too good at matchup football and no-huddle is a way to negate matchup games.

In a fashion no-huddle is a way of creating platoon like play to the benefit of the offense.

Exactly..And with the advances college football has made in the S&C phase of the game, college offenses are playing at a level older generations could never imagine..Players have gotten bigger, and have become faster, it's amazing watching these players play football in this day & age & how good they've become..What's scary to think about..They will only become bigger , faster, and even better in the future..It's going to be fun watching it happen..and the offenses will become even more diverse as it becomes even better as well in the future..

Wow! - Will Oregon's strength of Schedule keep them out the BCSNCG if all three of us remain undefeated?

Brad Edwards was saying that Oregon's schedule would actually help them, that this first poll was all smoke and mirrors because of the computers, and that there was no way, if Oregon wins out, that they won't be number two. He's normally right.

Florida can still beat FSU. Va. Tech will win the ACC championship. This will pave the way for us to beat Baylor in the BCS championship game. Oregon goes down to either Stanford or UCLA.

Not sure if you're serious or not, but IMO the likelihood of Baylor making it to the big game is extremely remote.

Current BCS
1. Alabama (.9841)
2. FSU (.9348)
3. Oregon (.9320)
4. Ohio St (.8553)
5. Mizzou (.8219)
6. Stanford (.7414)
7. Miami (.7200)
8. Baylor (.7120)
9. Clemson (.6249)
10. Texas Tech (.6220)
11. Auburn (.5058)
12. UCLA (.4807)

Under your scenario, we'll assume Bama wins out. That knocks Mizzou out of the picture. We'll assume UF beats FSU, because if it's Miami who beats them, Baylor's still locked out by Miami. If Oregon drops one to Stanford, Stanford finishes ahead of Baylor. Even if it's UCLA who knocks off Oregon, UCLA has a fair chance of jumping Baylor, since both Texas Tech and Auburn will have lost, narrowing the gap. Even if all the dominoes fell just right for Baylor, you still have Ohio State sitting there with the world's weakest schedule outside of Baylor. They will run the table.

It would be a great match-up of different philosophies in offensive footballs, and could be a determining factor of the future in college football, I think teams would follow suit of the winner between the winner of a Bama-Oregin NC Game..

If Bama wins, I think more teams would run more of a Pro Style smash moth type offense that's made Bama the "King Of The Hill" in college football(especially in the BCS Era) or if Oregon dethrones "The Process", I can see more team go to the HUNH offense, it could shift how teams run their offense & defense in college football, and become a more finesse Pac 10 type football ..I think it would be that important of a game..I may be exaggerating a tad bit, but, I really think it could a really important game in college football..

Couldn't agree more. There is a national debate occurring that's been brewing for a number of years now. "Old school" (Mizzou would say "old man") defensive-oriented power football vs "new school" offensive-oriented HUNH football. It would seem that seven straight SEC national championships would have settled the debate by now, but truth is, we still haven't seen the best-vs-best showdown between the two philosophies. And no - 2010 Oregon vs Auburn was not that best-vs-best pairing since Auburn almost exemplified new-school in 2010 and still does.

The nation wants to see Oregon vs Alabama to settle the debate, and I agree that the outcome would not only guide future coaching decisions, but also decisions made behind the closed doors of future selection committees.

He did not take into account championship games. If VT goes undefeated the rest of the way, an undefeated FSU team would get a pretty big boost by a win in the ACCCG. On the other hand, if Oreegon is still undefeated when it gets to the PACCG, they will be playing a team that they have already beaten and will already have at least 2 losses before that game.

It really depends on how the pollsters view these two teams the rest of the way out. One game in which they "barely" beat a rival could cost them a seat at the table.

All Alabama has to do is win out, but your remaining schedule is far and away the most difficult of the teams in the top 5.

I would love to curb stomp tOSU and Urban Meyer, too. Let Jameis Winston have the Heisman but lose to Miami and let the Ducks lose to Stanford. I know I am in the minority here, but the only thing I like about the Ducks is their multitude of costume changes. It's the girl in me. That lime green and volt yellow is full of awesome.:p

I do agree with you and I would like to add that the guy in me likes their cheerleaders too :D

Anyone who doesn't think this is possible did not watch football Saturday.

I think the Ducks are so wound up on Bama they get surprised by Stanford or UCLA. Fl & Miami CAN beat FSU & have when not expected to see last year.

I don't really care who we play, right now it's 10rc that concerns me. A Bear in the spring is weak but very hungry & very dangerous. Playing in the SEC is no easy task I don't care what the computers say.

Oregon will most likely lose one game this season as will (I hate to say it) Bama. FSU is red hot and I see FSU and either the ducks or the Tide in the BCSNCG. Please don't let Urban with his weak schedule make it to the big dance. Bama will really have to play lights out the rest of the season, tough schedule ahead. FSU would put a scalping on the ducks if they played, imo.

I realize what the rankings say right now, but there is no reasonable scenario where the voters allow a one loss team into the Championship game when there is an undefeated left from on of the top 5 conferences. This would include Baylor, Texas Tech or Miami.

The question would be close if we are talking a one loss Alabama (to LSU) against an undefeated Texas Tech, but I think we would lose out (on making Pasadena). Again, let's hope we never find out.

FWIW, he's right, and I don't think there is much of a real argument to be had in that regard.

Oregon trails FSU in the BCS by three one-thousandths of a point, which means they are effectively a toss-up right now. Down the stretch, though, Oregon has four ranked opponents remaining, while FSU has only one, and additionally I believe Oregon will get a boost later with the computer polls in terms of strength of schedule. It won't make for a slam dunk blowout win in the BCS standings, of course, but provided that Oregon wins out they will finish above FSU in the BCS with a comfortable lead and no real worries.

Odds are someone slips up somewhere making it a moot point, but in the event 'Bama, Oregon, and FSU all go undefeated, 'Bama and Oregon will play for the title and Florida State and Ohio State will fight for the vaunted Golf Digest National Championship.

The computers seem to agree...

Two points here:

(1) Florida is going to beat Florida State? Not a chance. Florida couldn't beat Central Florida right now, or Miami (who they couldn't even beat back when they were healthy). The 'Noles will hammer them.

(2) The drumming of Florida will result in a collective yawn from the pollsters and the computer polls. At best, Florida will be a 7-5 and unranked team to end the year, and you get no real bonus for knocking around a team like that. Given all of the other games going on that day -- Iron Bowl, Michigan v. Ohio State, Clemson v. South Carolina, A&M v. Missouri, Notre Dame v. Stanford, USC v. UCLA -- that game will receive little, if any, attention on the national stage even on the day it's played.
