Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

I still believe that this is CNS's last stop. What concerns me however is that unknowns in the minds of HS seniors and their parents at this point can have an adverse effect on recruiting. The sooner that this is put to rest the better.

I think our targets know what is up, he has been recruiting ever since we lost the Iron Bowl. It's not like he is on the plane scouting Austin.

Can you imagine if Saban and Brown showed up at the same HS at the same time? That would be awkward. I already wonder if the kids he visited today mentioned the rumors.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Tom Osbourn had just been an assistant at Nebraska.
The only completion he had was Oklahoma. All the rest were high school teams. ;) Not the case in the SEC. Also I highly doubt Jim Harbough would leave San Francisco to come to to come back to the college level even if it was Alabama. I'd be a bit unhappy with that considering they are my favorite NFL team. :)

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

If I'm not mistaken he received an extension and raise this past March. He did say at that time that it "represented his intention to finish his career at Alabama"!

Was CNS wrong for taking the other raises? Should he still be honoring that 8 year, 32M contract he signed in 2007? How many raises have you ever turned down in your life?

I agree with you in principle, but rightly or wrongly, it's not the way the world works. I think that's the disagreement people are having with your statements. But integrity SHOULD mean more important than money.
There's no "rightly or wrongly" about it...there's right and there's wrong. People simply choose one or the other...it may be a hard decision but it's not very complicated.

Well that's certainly parsable. :)

Understand that there is no expectation that coaches stay the length of contracts anymore. This is now a part of the contract understanding for almost all jobs at this level, so it really isn't what it might appear to be.
It's not the contract I'm talking about its the man's word...and echoed by his wife.

And what exactly has he said contrary to that to cause all of the angst on this board? I must admit, there were several times today, when someone was passing by my desk, that I had to minimize my browser and pretend to work, so I could have missed a quote from CNS, and videos are blocked at work, so I might have missed him singing "The Yellow Rose Of Texas"...I'm confused...:frown:

So why is there another raise and extension on his desk right now, if we don't find ourselves in competition for his services?

Well that's certainly parsable. :)

I'll say this. In terms of contract negotiations, and all of that, sports are different that the real world. Mike Shula had a contract when he was fired, Mack Brown has a contract, etc... all of those represent the word of the respective universities and when it comes down to it, it doesn't mean much.

But, there's no question at all in my mind that if Saban is given a fair market offer by Alabama, and he does leave, that would be wrong on several levels.

It's not about the raises it's about his word how is that so hard to understand?

Okay...wrong choice of phrases. It is wrong. It's distasteful to watch. It's the way a lot of big business works, like it or not. He never said he would never want more money though. Obviously, he wants more money. Seems ridiculous to you and me, but there it is.

In that case, you presently have no reason to be upset. He has not said or done anything that you or I know of that contradicts anything that he has said to Alabama fans and/or the Alabama administration.

We have a lot of conjecture about this situation, but certainly not enough to start calling him a liar.
