Saban signs multi-year extension w/Bama, shorthorns on suicide watch...

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

I'm beginning to think that with the BOR decision last evening in Texas, that Mack isn't going quietly and might even be back next year.

The Texas side seems to think the whole Saban to Texas thing is dead now according to some on twitter.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

"Another one bites the dust"...:biggrin:hahahaha

Mack Brown ran into that career ending buzzsaw, aka "The Process"...he fought it a few years, but "resistance is futile".

My advice to the next coach...try and be more like Bama, and less like Baylor.

I honestly think that President Powers was told that the powers that be expect YOU to Fire him or YOU are FIRED tooooooo! Let him have his fun on Friday night with the Longhorn players, but come Saturday we'll refer to him in past tense and YOU may be past tense if you don't comply with the High Expectations of this Board!

But you may be correct in your assumptions.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

He should be in Austin by now for his "meeting". I think something should happen within the next couple of hours.

Remember that televised game several years back (can't remember how long) and a building caught fire somewhere close to Jordan-Hare and you could see the flames in the background? Was that a barn of some kind? Does anyone remember?

if I remember correctly, it was some kind of old gym. I want to say that it was used by the gymnastics team and for intramural sports.

Unless the Texas side is finally handling things wisely (no leaks), that's the impression I'm getting as well.

I think too much got out for this to work like they'd want, or even like a situation that CNS could have wanted. Mack had to go out and deny rumors, Saban had to go out and deny rumors to recruits, and it gives everyone a chance to kind of dig in. I think it was always a long shot, and they needed a lot of things to go their way.

That's exactly what they're trying...

However, I don't think we'll know the decision until later tonight or tomorrow. If he tells his players at the Banquet, we'll know tonight, because an entire team will not keep a secret or there will be reporters there snooping around.

Austin is a beautiful city. Terrible traffic, but that comes with the territory. That said, I much prefer Columbus to Austin. That is home for me.

I have not had a chance to see Tuscaloosa. Some day my wife and I will make it down for a game.
Odd, I've been to Columbus several times. (Had a SIL there.) But I've never been to Austin...

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

If they are concerned about their employment if he does leave for Texas then this makes sense. They would just be worried about their future, and some people just expect the worst in these scenarios.

I'm thinking they are just being pessimistic, but they claim there is general understanding/hearsay that he's gone.

Not that it means anything, but I agree with that assessment. He (the prez) got his shot over the bow. They will talk but I believe it will not be about whether he will be coaching next year but rather what other capacity he will be serving and how much he will be making in that capacity. UT would do well to keep Mack and not disenfranchise him. The hand writing is on the wall. Mack is out. I do not think Nick is in play but I just believe the Mack ship has sailed. I said it before and I will say it again, this is all political posturing right now. This will not end with Mack being the coach in my opinion.

It was their library. Crying shame too. Lost all their Cat in the Hat and coloring books!

You know, I really think that's what got Coach Brown in trouble, i.e. trying to be like Coach Saban. He even hired Coaches off our staff, Applewhite and a D-line coach, and another former Saban coach, Muschamp. He is no Saban and trying to be like him didn't work.

I've been through Columbus but never visited there. A friend from Cleveland was going to take me to an Ohio State game one time but we couldn't get our schedules together. I would have liked to have done that. I've been to Cleveland several times....and I'm not crazy about that place at all.... wasn't impressed.

I think you'd really enjoy a game in T-town, and the campus is beautiful.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Others may give you a much better answer, but it is the Cow College (API) of Alabama. Classes are commonly held in the Barn. We do claim that it's in West Georgia.
He's asking if it's a "land grant" college, and it is...

Austin is a beautiful city. Weird, but nice. I mean to say the people who live there are across the spectrum which makes it weird. It is not the land of sameness for sure. It is not representative of Texas. It is just ...well....Austin. I prefer it to Dallas because I like the hills, lakes, etc. Traffic is bad but that is true for every major city in Texas. I would not like Austin. I would rather be in the Hill Country in like Fredericksburg so some place similar to that.

Re: New Discussion Thread on Possible Coaching Changes...

Mack will be gone by Saturday, I'm VERY confident of that.

That said, if UT doesn't sign Saban by Monday, I doubt seriously it goes down.

So this will end for both our sides quickly, one way or the other.

I have a niece in Bandera. If I go visit her, I'll jog over to Austin...

That ain't quick enough! I've got to mod a basketball game tomorrow evening!
