Does Coach Saban See A Little Of "His Younger Self" In Lane Kiffin?

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

I think it simply boils down to the fact that CNS sees him as a good fit for the OC position.

He didn't hire him because he failed as a head coach twice. He hired him for the same reason he wanted to hire him in '07.

Now, can CLK learn a few things about head coaching from CNS or refine some of the skills he already has that might help him again sometime in the future??? YOU BET!

Really a win - win for both!

I respect your opinion very much. BUT--you know as well as me, that Coach Saban knew the reaction he'd get from most Tide fans, including myself.
In all honesty, I was like, "Are you kidding me?". And I didn't like it.
But he hired LK anyway, and that just made me think, "He see's something, that maybe I don't".
There's a connection. That's all I'm saying. Whether it's right or wrong, well we'll find out.
Coach S. has tended to be pretty much on target so far :)
Thanks Sip'...that's the same thing I thought too.

Exactly..And he'll have that proverbial "chip on his shoulder"to prove that he's among the best OC's in the game, that can be a good thang for us, and our rivals worst nightmare come true..I really do think we will become a better offense under Kiffin..
Without a doubt...he sees a talented coach who has failed...they can be the most dangerous in life for they are now motivated and know what it takes.

I believe you're right TideMan09....I think next year, we'll be saying "wow" about our offense alot..

I agree with the Oak, Usc were not good positions to be in,Tenn was up and down season for one season. He has never really been anywhere to see what he could do, as to him being OC at Usc he had good players then and did well. There's one thing I have wondered about is how big O come in and turned there season around. Then I read where he was grooming a new QB the first of the season. I am optimistic to see what he brings to the table next season. Also he had a season with out the normal everyday operations of running a program, maybe had time to come up with something new. Also too evaluate himself.

The scholarship reductions hurt badly as well.

Here's what I think. To answer your question, yes, maybe a little, especially in work ethic.
What I expect out of Coach Kiffin is a man desperate to get his coaching career back on track. He has fumbled a few times now (Raiders, how he left Tennessee, and the USC debacle*), and knows he has to produce, on the field, to be considered for any other desirable jobs. If he screws this one up, he may be following Coach Fran as the next head coach at Texas State.

* I was really disappointed to see how he handled the Sun Bowl, his whole team being an hour late to a joint Ga Tech-USC team supper. Bad form. Really bad form, Coach.

IDK if CNS sees something of himself in LK or not. Maybe we need LK like he needs us.

LK is a good Offensive mind who has been chastised for not being ready for the big time,
when he got several high profile jobs. Now we find out if Lane learned from his experiences.

Now we find out how dangerous a 'Wounded' LK can be when he's desperate to prove himself.
I expect we will see an Offense that's not as predictable as what we fielded last year. That's good news.
I expect LK to involve our TE more in our Offense. More good news.
I expect to see big Henry carry the ball more in short yardage situations... (Wooda,Coulda,Shoulda against Auburn)

This is Lane's big chance, and I expect it's gonna be a good outcome.
Can't wait for 'A-Day Game'. It should be informative, educational, and maybe even entertaining.

I agree 100% wit ya sip, he knows exactly how good of an OC Kiiffin truly is, Kiffin's offense while at the viles HC, gave perhaps the greatest or on the best D's we've had at Bama, all it could handle..So Coach Saban knows from experience just how good & what Kiffin can bring to our offense..I'm actually excited he's our OC & am anxious to see what kinda changes he make to our offense..I have a sneaky suspicion our offense will be the most explosive we've had at Bama..

I really don't understand why folks say he gave our defense "fits" when he was at UTsucks. They scored a whopping 10 points. Yes we blocked two FG, but still, that would be a whopping 16 points. Crompton had a decent game, but still only threw for 260(ish) yards, more than we gave up in other games, but also not lighting the world on fire. Even taking out the QB stats, we held them to less than 3 yards per rush.

The only reason that game was close was their D v our O. We went from averaging well over 400 yards of offense per game to just over 250 in that game. We then had 3 more 400+ games right after against LSU, MSU and Chatt and 490 against FL. Lane shouldn't get credit for what Daddy did...
