Do you think Sims separated himself further today?

Tony Barnhart's take. TIFWIW....

There is no quarterback controversy at Alabama: There may continue to be a competition because that’s the way coach Nick Saban wants it to be. But based on what I’ve seen in two games, Blake Sims is the guy. He was 11 of 13 for 214 yards in the 41-0 win over Florida Atlantic. Jacob Coker, the transfer from Florida State, got into the game and completed 15 of 24 for 202 yards. Those are respectable numbers. But I was watching the game at the SEC Network studios with guys who know a lot more football than me. In terms of having command of the offense, it really isn’t that close. Now, can Blake Sims take Alabama where they want to go? That is what we’re going to find out over the next 10 weeks.

Yep. And JC would be one game closer to reaching his full potential. Instead he his one game behind. Go ahead and anoint Blake if you want. I wasn't impressed with the 15 bubble screens he threw today. I was more impressed with JC standing in the pocket, going through progressions, and delivering a strike down field..
One thing you guys are missing with these fast screens is that they are combination plays. There is a run play called and if the QB has the numbers on the outside or the look he likes he throws that fast screen to the outside. It's 2 plays in one. We had soft corner after soft corner today. What sims did was exactly what he should have.

My persona opinion is that this will be an open competition until Coker beats out Sims or the season comes to an end.
I agree. Coker showed enough last game to warrant more PT and for the competition to continue. Like I said earlier next week should be interesting. I really wanna see Blake push the ball down field a little bit and would like to see Jake play a little faster and with more confidence..

Big difference in per completion and per attempt. I just want to see the coaches let Blake throw it down the field more. Doesn't even have to be deep. Just more than 2 yards passed the LOS

During the game thread, several seasoned posters said they thought the body language of the team indicated they were playing harder for one qb than the other. I'm not sharp enough to interpret or catch what body language they were noticing, but if that's true no wonder Saban is so testy about who starts.
If the competition is held open as you suggest, until either Coker starts or the season ends, that sounds like a decision that might should be reconsidered.

It was obvious to me during the game that certain players appeared to try harder with one QB in over the other. Commented to the wife about it. I saw receivers breaking off routes and dropping balls that hit them square in the hands. That is bound to happen on occasion, but the body language during and after told the story to me.

I think the play harder for one player over another came from Andre Ware. I saw no proof of that. He was just speculating from when he played. He has no pulse on the heart beat of our team. I do not agree with him. I think when Coker is named the starter (and he will be before the season is over) the team will play just as hard if not harder. I believe that Blake will probably play in every game but I get the sense this is Coker's job to win. I think we can win with either guy for the record and thats all I care about is the W's.

As for the body language it really could be the change of pace and the fact that CLK had to walk through the plays a lot more Indepth with Jake. Take into account cooper had about the same amount of yards with both of them. As for dropped balls argument if that is true then Christian Jones is the biggest Coker supporter because he has dropped many balls thrown by Blake, which is totally untrue. I really think some of y'all listened too much to Andre ware and are too giddy to point out who the starter is based on what a commentator said , "reliable" source has told you, and what y'all interpret what saban's cryptic press conference meaning is instead of just waiting patiently on the final decision is. Just keep calm because all is well either way this goes. CNS and CLK know what they are doing and roll tide

I can you one thing with certainty - if we lose a game, this debate is going to get 100 times hotter than it is now. Too many people have made up their minds one way or the other, and there's going to be a bunch of people ready to pounce if it happens. I hope after this weekend this stops being called a competition, one way or the other. I think most fans and players would rather hear that both guys are too good to sit and that both are going to continue to play rather
than the way it is now.

At the time I thought the guys played harder for Sims. But when I watched some of the replay yesterday it didn't seem like that. The tempo of the offense slowed way down when Coker went in and that made them look a little flat after the up-tempo pace that Sims ran. So I'm not so sure if they did or didn't play harder for Sims.

I'm not crazy about the way Saban is handling the QB competition. Saying “there’s still a competition at QB” and “we haven’t picked a starter yet” is a mistake, IMHO. He should come out and say “Sims is our starter. He’s played really well and we’re pleased with his progress. But we still intend to give Coker lots of playing time. It’s important that he’s ready to take the reins, if necessary, so we’re going to give him meaningful playing time. But Blake’s our starter.” That statement leaves the door open for healthy competition without causing a division on the team. Then, if Sims stumbles, or if Coker starts playing really well, Saban can change things up without looking like he short-changed Sims.

I can honestly say that Coach Saban is very irked with the fans right now and I think some of the stuff we're saying on forums and all is affecting the locker room atmosphere... I"m not saying we need to stop discussing this or not.. not saying that all, but I wouldn't be surprised if the players already know about what's being said on the forum and it may affect the mood in locker room at some point...... Right now, I'm proud of these two gentlemen for peforming their job on the field. I was impressed with both of them, given that both made critical mistakes and I hope they learned from that. As long they continue to improve each games, I"m happy with who we have because I have lot of confidence in both of these guys. I know Sims and Coker are real good friends with each other, and they support each other. I'm proud of them for all they have done to this date.
Well I get irked when CNS lumps all fans together. Not all Bama fans are Finebaum callers. About 99% of the ones I talk to support both 100% and support the staff's ultimate decision.

Ware made that comment after I had already made it. I admit I could be wrong or the difference may have just been coincidental. There may have been things I did not see very well. I do hope there was no drop off in effort. I also think it's possible that twice when the receiver broke off the route that perhaps they thought the throw would be short, but that would take a major misjudgment not usually made by one player in particular. It was my thought at the time and I have yet to re-watch the game. I reserve the right to change my mind.
