****Bama vs. Hogs Postgame Headache Thread****

We won......yes, I was raising hell at the performance of our team today. The fact remains though, that no one feels as bad, and nobody knows the need to improve, more than our team and coaches. They don't need any of our support when they win, yet everyone is ready to throw in the towel when they lose, when they need the support the most...but even at that, BAMA fans complain about the team even after a hard fought win......yes I was raising Cain during regulation, but we pulled it out and everyone should be proud of our predominately young team fighting to get the win on the road.

We're not the caliber team as in years past.........just yet........but, with a little support by fans, and a little determination of the team, we can be......we're still in the hunt for the NC, and until then, I'm supporting the team with the same chip on my shoulder that's been there for the last several years......
Ugly win.....but as a BAMA fan of 40 some odd years, an ugly win has always been just as good as a dominate win....

I think Blake has hit his ceiling as a passer but we can do more with him as an athlete playing QB in our play calling. If we refuse to do so, might as well play for next year with Coker.

Let's judge OM and State next year when they both lose half their teams to NFL early entry and seniors leaving. I guarantee you they won't both be in the top 5 again next year. Bama has been doing this since 2008 while winning 3 NC in 5 years. Not taking anything away from either team. Just saying you can't be the best every year. Both will take big steps back next year..

I agree it's taken 6 years for Mullen to come up with this years team. They have some depth and they're senior laden.

i'm getting tired of people naming everything and anything under the sun as a reason for how bad we are while refusing to even consider that coaching is part of the problem right now.

can anyone honestly say that they think we are a well-coached team right now?

Can't buy that alone as an excuse for how bad the offense and special teams are performing.

Our staff should be able to take Vanderbilt's special teams and offensive players and do better than we have the last couple of games. Yet, we have the #1 or so rated recruiting classes the last 5 years and we are now back to the 2007 level?

Oh, I totally agree with you. There are most definitely issues that go beyond talent. We have lots of talent, however, we are missing a few critical pieces. Beyond that, our discipline and focus seem poor, lots of mental mistakes in all 3 phases and that comes down to coaching and execution by the players.

On defense, I said it during the game thread. We just look a step slow and big for the direction the game has moved. It'll be interesting to see what the coaches can do with this team...

I agree. Which is why I don't understand why guys like Tim williams and r evans aren't seeing more time. Both have shown all kinds of potential but just aren't seeing the field much.

I had that same thought that I posted earlier. IMO, I would start JC if we lose another game. I don't see the point in playing out the season with Blake if a championship isn't on the table. Get Jake, or whoever, some experience for next year. We aren't to this point yet but we are getting mighty close.

You're right, fire the whole coaching staff and clearly this team will perform better.

Here's the deal. It's been stated before, but Alabama is one of the most inexperienced teams in college football. Now, when you have problems, you can either go hmm... it's the coaches, you know the ones with all the championship rings, or may be it's the inexperienced players. To me, it's logical to point at the thing that changed the most from the last championship, and that's the players.

This team is 4-1 and has suffered some serious injuries. There's nothing wrong with that, and there's nothing wrong with the team winning 8 or 9 games either, providing they don't make a habit of it. Team's have down years for various reasons, the idea that Alabama should always win every game no matter who they run out there is kind of off.

I haven't read the whole thread. I just got back from a mission trip in eastern Kentucky and have had zero contact with the civilized world since last Sunday. I want to give my take anyway.

The defense played fine. We are just weak in the secondary and have to hope we don't run up against a hot QB. D line and linebackers are doing a fine job.

The offensive play calling is poor at best. I was really encouraged after the Florida game but the last two games our offense just looks anemic. I couldn't believe how the hogs were pushing our guys around, but still, there wasn't anything wide tonight and we kept trying it on key downs.

Even bad teams play better on special teams. This is just inexcusable. I suspect we'll see staff turnover at the end of the season. There were 3 muffs on punt returns. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think we've lost the special teams mini-game against everyone this year. Tonight, their offense was better than ours, and their special teams was better. We were lucky to win.

Why do we have so many procedure penalties this year?

Surely this was the worst performance we'll see this year. If it gets worse, I'm gonna have a hard time watching.

When he got in, u saw him because he made plays. I Don't think it was a lot, or at least enough IMO

lets take a look at the o-line tonight for just a second:
LT: cam robinson - first year starter
LG: Kouandjio - second year starter
C: Bozeman - first year starter, thrown in there now
RG: Taylor - first year starter, Leon Brown - first year starter sharing duty
RT: Shepherd - second year starter

only 2 guys are really returning starters and really the best player is a freshman, combine that with a first year starting QB and thats the possibility for trouble

I just think our players are under so much pressure to win, they aren't allowed to have fun. I know this will never happen, but imagine how our players would respond if Saban had a celebration/party waiting for them back in T-town. We won an SEC road game and we are still in the SEC title hunt. Let the players enjoy it for once.

For the record, the blue font is meant to be sarcastic, I wasn't trying to be serious either with what you said or what I said.

I don't think the coaches are the problem. I've said it over and over that the players are inexperienced, I've been saying it since last year.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying no coaching adjustments should be made. But, sometimes you're trying to figure out what to focus on with an inexperienced player. Take Blake Sims for example, you spend time with him to develop one skill, well may be you miss spending as much time on a QB sneak. The issue is that he's an inexperienced QB and that goes back even to how he was used in high school. When you're trying to coach players, you have a set amount of time you can spend and a set amount of people who can coach.

So, I think the problem first and foremost is simply players who are inexperienced, and that in turn creates a drain on the coaches time and can actually lead to other problems because you're additional focus on teaching basics. So, for instance with AJ, you didn't have to spend as much time on certain things because you knew he knew how to do that, and you can go on down the line with that.

I look at the team and sure I say, may be they need to work on that in practice some more. Absolutely, ball safety, QB sneak, trying to get the new center a little more up to speed... all of that sort of thing, but Alabama is playing against the odds at this point, I'm not sure there's really much the coaches can do in the way of adjustments to fix the issues we are currently seeing, at least in the short term.

I'm not sure you could swap out coaches and fix the problems we're seeing, at least without having other problems show up. But, if these players don't develop as the season progresses, if we don't see any improvement then may be it is time to shake things up a bit, but I won't judge them on the basis of a beat up team playing on the road.
