November 18 (week 4) CFP poll released

Re: Week 4 CFP poll released

They looked overrated because of their failure to perform at a high level when they faced their first real stern test. Dropped passes everywhere. Their QB played mediocre. They were deer in the headlights the whole game. There was never the sense - not even for a second - that they really could win that game. They simply didn't play like the #1 team and the result is now they are in a more realistic place in the standings.

....and I am sure that our top ranked defense had nothing to do with this.

Hope you all aren't interpreting my lack of enthusiasm for MSU as a slight on your team. You're probably the best team this year so far and dominated that game. I expected to see a little more kick out of MSU. LSU looked better and proved to be stiffer competition.

That is kind of what you were saying. What else does it mean...when you say MSU is overrated? That downplays our win against the #1 team. They may lose again, but they were undefeated and #1 in middle November. They are a very good team.

That is a significant win.

There was no kick, because we STIFLED them with our AMAZING D#.

There is familiarity with those teams. Michigan State says hello.

Mich. St.? Really? They had all off season to prepare. And they played Jacksonville St. the week before in week one. I'm sure MSU spent a lot of time preparing for them & didn't get to look at Oregon until week 2. That makes complete sense. Oregon beat MSU b/c Oregon is better. Having a week to prepare had nothing to do with it. But if you want to bring a B1G as evidence that's pretty weak. You know since B1G teams are known for their great athletes, stellar defenses, and team speed. Not exactly great against non-B1G competition.

Again your "elite" offense has produced ZERO national championships & ONE conference title in the last 5 years. Elite defense wins NCs. Fast paced offenses lead to exhibition play at the end of the year.

I wasn't aware that Ducks had the ability to speak out of both sides of their bills. ( or out of anywhere else, but that's another story)

That's wasn't my intention. Great play from Alabama is expected every game. So I guess some of us take it as a given and something to be expected. Alabama totally delivered and looked excellent while doing it. I apologize to everyone if I seem to have downplayed the win. It was the most significant win by any team so far this year. Taking down the number 1 team is huge. I suppose I just hoped to see an MSU that played like they deserved to be number 1 and they fell short of that expectation. I wanted to see what their Heisman candidate QB was all about and how good MSU really was, but he just didn't seem to show up, and neither did their team really. Big game jitters maybe.

You should be giving props to Ole Miss for the best win of the year, possibly the most significant.

I think the CFP has painted themselves into the corner with the #4 MSU. They will kinda look stupid to drop MSU if they win out in favor of another conference's champion. They will catch some flack from partisans and the media if they don't.

They really should have put MSU at #5 and give themselves some wiggle room.

Re: Week 4 CFP poll released

Perhaps. But your team looks vastly improved from then, by the eye test. I think you would beat them easily in their own house at this point in the season, even if they were injury free.

I haven't read everything in the thread, but I'd just like to say that 1. I've enjoyed having you as a poster on here, even if you're a Duck homer and 2. You're entitled to your opinion, and especially for a fan of a different team, you've been reasonably respectful (again, haven't read the whole thread, so if you really said something awful that I missed, I retract this and you can hit the road, jack). So no, I don't agree with your opinion on MSU, but that's totally fine with me if you have a different opinion on it. I'd prefer we settle the argument on the field. ;-)

Roll Tide.

Re: Week 4 CFP poll released

I'm going to ask you this question one more time. Why are you an Oregon fan posting on an Alabama board? Are there no Duck boards for you to blow off these fantasies of yours? Arizona had no problem with you. Stanford, which we like to call Bama Lite, beat your bunch 2 years in a row. I mean, where are you coming off that the Mississippi schools would lose to you? How do you possibly see that? Oh, I know, it's called F A N T A S Y. Now, just find another place to quack.
You're OK by me, oregonbltzkrieg. I hear what you're saying about MSST - you just wanted to see them look a little better and compete against Bama, which they really didn't do... and I don't mind a few visiting fans, so long as they are respectful - which I believe you've pretty much always been. Cheers!

I think Alabama had a LOT to do with that.
