CFP Selection Show watch thread

I am slow, but I just figured it out. The reason for the seeding. I just couldn't get past TCU Being better than FSU last week, and now OSU is better than TCU, but not better than FSU. didn't make sense. I thought BAMA/FSU, OREGON/ OHIO ST. we're more attractive match ups. Better billing. It finally hit me.

2 heisman winners . Winston vs the anti Winston, Mariota. Then the classic matchup of old foes Saban vs Meyer. Makes sense now

I'm not sure they thought that deeply.

I do think that FSU was screwed just a little bit. The committee should have been allowed to switch seeds to allow a higher seeded team to play closer to home, just like the basketball committee does. I am sure that FSU would have rather played in New Orleans than LA. The fact that they have a much better chance of upsetting Oregon than us nonwithstanding. ;)

Any of you who doubted this committee was and is a total farce, simply look at the piles of manure coming out of Jeff Long's mouth now compared to what he said before:

1) December 2

“We evaluate these teams, we watch the games, we watch the films,” committee chairman and Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long told ESPN. “We believe TCU’s a better football team at this point in time.”

(Keep in mind that Baylor beat TCU head-to-head awhile back.

Now look:

2) December 7

He also said head-to-head was the deciding factor between Baylor and TCU. The Bears beat the Frogs, 61-58, earlier this season.

So five days ago, head-to-head did NOT prevent TCU from taking a BIGGER lead on Baylor. But NOW.....five days later....it's the DECIDING FACTOR? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

And if he wants to mouth the "whole body of work," tell me how:

a) Baylor's barely scraping by K-State is better than TCU blowing the Wildcats out
b) he himself said the following about Ohio State:

1) Long pretty much dismissed the crummy Ohio State home loss to 6-6 Virginia Tech, saying the Buckeyes overcame it.
2) "With the championship game, Ohio St demonstrated they were a total team. ...It was decisive for Ohio State to move" into No. 4,"

Okay, someone help me with THIS insanity. First, I'm told it's the whole body of work. THEN, I'm told head-to-head matters when it didn't five days earlier. And THEN, I'm told ONE GAME by Ohio State undoes ONE OTHER GAME by Ohio State.

Smh...

I don't think the committee was impressed with the weak ACC and the fact that FSU was not dominant in any game this year. They were more than ready to leave them out of the playoffs. The moved TCU to 3rd on Tuesday to get everyone prepared for this expecting Ga Tech to beat FSU. But they got carried away, should have made TCU 4th. That way if FSU lost, they could just move TCU and Ohio St. Depending on how they played against Wisky.

I also don't think they appreciated the antics of the Big 12 (-2) commissioner by presenting them with Co-champions thinking that would get both Baylor and TCU in. Why would they not utilize tie-breaking scenarios to declare "one true champion" as promised? The big 12 can also thank the arrogance and bullying of Texas for running off Colorado, Nebraska, A&M, and Missouri.

I think TCU and Baylor were punished for being TCU and Baylor.

I can't believe that a team that lost to Virgina Tech at home got in. Then, they beat a bunch of creampuffs in the weak Big 10.

But it is great news for 'Bama.

I don't think everyone will be happy with any system. First, Baylor had not played K State which is a good team. So 5 days ago, there was that disequilibrium in the schedules. Keep in mind neither TCU nor Baylor had strong OOC schedules. In fact, Baylor was 128 out of 128. So the K State game would have been meaningful to the committee before they would have weighed the head to head matchup. After the K State game, the head to head factored into the ranking. But what OSU did could not be overlooked nor should it be. When you lose has always mattered. Better to lose early than late. The Big XII commish didn't help their cause by not naming a champion but frankly I am not sure that would have made a difference in the outcome. I thought the committee was fair in their assessment. You could have made a case for TCU, Baylor or OSU but I believe they got it right. There are quality wins and Baylor's win was a quality win. Also keep in mind that Baylor's game with TCU was a home game for Baylor and home is worth at least 3 points. What they said when they said it makes perfect sense to me.

Shaun Alexander proposed a system that made a lot more sense to me than an 8 team playoff. Take the top 6 ranked teams. The 1st and 2nd teams get a bye. Teams 4-6 play "wild card" type games. The 3rd place team plays the 6th seed and the winner will play the #1 team. The 4th placed team will play t he 5th team and the winner will play #2. Then, you will have the championship game.

There is no doubt four is just the start. I like what Shaun proposes becauses it at least rewards the top teams. My bet is eight and the "reward" is 1 plays 8. We shall see. I do recall Nick saying last year that most can agree on the top four teams. :)

If they expand to 6, it still has to be the best 6, not conference champions plus an at large.

I applaud the committee for having the stones to prove me and quite a few other posters wrong by putting FSU at 3 and making them travel to the Rose Bowl instead of bowing to Bowl/Big money pressure and settling on the safe bet of a traditional matchup between the PAC 12 and the BIG in the Rose Bowl. They gave us the best games instead of games settled by issues of geography. Absolutely love it. Oregon/FSU should be a Heisman QB vs Heisman QB match up. Good guys vs. bad guys. And we get to avoid having to play tOSU, a team that is somewhat scary, capable of blowing anyone out, as it showed yesterday.

I would love for us to have a shot at FSU, but I will not be upset if you guys beat them. ;)

And there's the difference - Bama fans are excited about playing OSU, you're scared to...

Just being honest, lol. tOSU does scare me more than FSU and I'd rather avoid them. You match up with them much better. But I also like the idea of getting the chance to play a team that we've never played before - FSU, rather than getting a rematch of the 2009 Rose Bowl game. Even better that FSU is on a 29 game win streak and the defending national champion. That is exciting.
