New coach search...

At this point I think I am beginning to get more interested in who 'plan B' might be. I wouldn't mind seeing the plane take off for Dayton this afternoon.

Supposedly the deadline is Friday.
The problem I have with that Friday deadline report is it was accompanied by a claim that Marshall was not impressed by Alabama's offer. With the Texas job open, and Smart apparently available, I do think Friday was too long. I think you make the best offer you can and give them 48 hours to sign. Of course, if necessary then you give him more time to announce to his team and so on, but I don't see why he needs more than a couple days after the offer. If Alabama gave him until Friday, I think they probably didn't do a very good sell...

A salesman, who makes the best possible offer they can, is highly unlikely to extend that offer for a week. You don't do that, not if you really, truly gave them the best offer you possibly could. Not if you have something time sensitive and only one of it. You give people that much time if for what ever reason you decided to give them a less than your best offer.

What is both sides agreed to keep it hush-hush until Friday and then make a big announcement with the press conference on Saturday? It would definitely give the talking heads something to discuss in front of the entire world during the final 4. The fact that we have not received a no yet is a good sign to me. The folks that seemed to be connected to the program are not giving any indications that he has turned us down so I'm inclined to think that is the case. If he were not impressed with our offer then I think he would have already said no. If Texas were going to make a run at him they would already have done so. It would be in the news just like it was with Battle if the Texas AD went to Wichita and met with him for 8 hours. I still think we have our guy locked in but maybe that is just the optimist in me winning over the realist and the pessimist. Once the day gets underway the pessimistic side of me may take over. :-)

Ok, first off there are reports to indicate that there has been some sort of contact with Marshall, but that Texas isn't as interested in Marshall as he is in Texas. Don't know if that's true, but I don't think you can rule that out until they have a new coach.

Secondly, there is no reason at all... none to keep this secret until Friday. That would be incredibly stupid on everyone's part. For one, you want to make Marshall announce it ASAP because it binds him to Alabama. You don't give him time for cold feet, you want the press conference and get this thing buttoned up. Some sort of super secret let's wait thing is the type of deal you'd do when he was still coaching his team in the tournament, not one you do now when Wichita St. would need a new coach and Alabama needs to recruit.

So, all we can really conclude is it's not a done deal yet. May be he's on the line, may be he's not, but Alabama simply can't give him too long. It's both a good sign he hasn't said no, and a bad sign he hasn't said yes. It's like a marriage proposal, if she has to think about it too long that's not a good thing...

I've heard from sources that Gregg Marshall is just a smoke screen and the we are about to hire Tom Izzo as soon as the final 4 is over. (blue font)

Izzo will steal your lunch money. I know you're kidding, but man, could you imagine?

I am going with this. If he goes to Austin or stays in Wichita we thank him for his time and start the process again. Contrary to what we think not everybody wants to live and work in Tuscaloosa. We only see what we see, not everyone is in love with the University of Alabama. Different strokes for different folks. Did that date me?

Twice in my life I have had to spend time in Wichita. I think anyone that was not born and raised in Wichita and does not know any better would prefer to live some where else.

This is the feeling I'm starting to get. If it is taking him and his family this long to come up with enough reasons to say "yes", then maybe it's just not a good fit for both parties. We don't want to end up with someone who doesn't really want to be here, that would be unfair for him and Bama.

I think maybe the poster that commented about the social consciousness of a 14 year old girl was actually talking about the emotional roller coaster exhibited by posters on this board :)

EDIT: I include myself in this. I have checked this thread probably 20x a day for the last week.

He has a lot to reconcile in himself as well guys. Ever think that leaving Wichita is an admission that he, not just the program, can't elevate any further? Ego stomach punch for sure.

Last night around 9, a poster on another Bama site said we should know something likely within the next 18 hours. That time frame would end around 3 this afternoon.

I have to assume that 80% of what we hear is false, and out of the 20% of true, half of those are just good guesses. However, that would be more in keeping with a 48 hour deadline which makes much more sense than a Friday deadline.

Maybe he was waiting until today to call a press conference and say "I'm staying at WSU...... APRIL FOOLS!!!!" and then put on a Bama hat and leave the room.

If they haven't come here, my feeling he isn't coming. We do not know for sure whether they have come to look around or not. I would not think his wife would agree to move to a new city site unseen. How would you like to move your wife to say Auburn without her seeing it. That is how divorces happen.

No chance in that. If I had a home in hell and a house in auburn, I would sell my house and move home.

The only way to pull that off is to blindfold her and plug her nose.
