Here's my issue with the media. They should ask questions that the fans and general public want to know. Here's a few examples they could have asked after the IB: what was your opinion on the Tony Brown targeting call? What was the philosophy in regards to the running back rotation? Was there a specific plan to only play Bo in the second half? Those are just off the top of my head. Instead we always get the same questions such as: talk about X player, how is X player progressing, how do you mentally prepare your team etc. I've listened to almost every Saban press conference and there's very few questions asked that are well conceived. Cecil Hurt is about the only one who consistently asks legitimate questions..

Strange how this is the SEC Championship week...and we are stuck on what Saban said to some poor media guy. This is probably the reason why Saban went on a rant. ;)

After your team benefited from a call that was clearly questionable, I think you would understand perspective. You see it as a good question. We see it as a stupid one since the media guys are around Saban enough to know what his answer would be. You knew what his answer would be.
Exactly. It seems some don't think there are stupid questions and everyone should be treated kindly with a smile. Not the real world. The current media/bloggers/etc are not like they were when they were all mostly very knowledgeable of the teams, coaches and players they covered and were not always looking for a headline. They want to have the headline on our sportsfeeds and this guy accomplished it knowing full well what the answer would be.

Just finally popped into this thread and I almost have to laugh at the conversation. Not that I mean to be a jerk or belittle anyone's opinion or anything but NOTHING about that 'rant' by CNS seemed uncalled for?? Maybe we ARE just use to him I dunno?

But I will say that CNS is Waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy more mello now than he use to be. He answers most questions pretty calmly now (even the repetitive ones) and even lightly jokes around with the media about being careful about what they say as he almost winks.

Yeah in the past he would GO OFF a lot and sometimes it was seemingly out of nowhere and a little over the line but this particular instance I would say is not the case. He ALREADY was asked a question in this vein last week about 'not having to beat auburn'. He didn't seem pleased about that line of thinking but still handled his answer well.

But to see the team struggle for basically 6 of the last 8 quarters and be posed the scenario AGAIN over UF and the SEC Championship....well I expected him to go off more than he did. I would say he restrained himself. The old CNS would have ATE that guy up over that question.....not just raised his voice. Coach was sending a message to the players to NOT think like that about an upcoming game.

I had a difficult time understanding what the reporter was asking as he stumbled with his words. He didn't infer the game didn't matter but towards the end of Saban's remarks, it appeared that Coach Saban thought this.

I think the reporter was asking if there was a need to worry about that type of mindset with his players (that the game didn't matter). I don't think it was a good question but Coach Saban seemed to mis-read it and went off more than he should have.

I think comparing questions people ask out of fear of the unknown regarding their physical well-being vs questions asked that are simply not well-thought out for an interview is strange, but okay.
No, man, come on.If patients were asking questions out of a fear of the unknown, you would have a point and that I would have no problem with. However, I can cite you more specific examples from earlier today or yesterday but I didn't think it necessary to be that detailed.

You have dismissed my point by assuming I cannot tell the difference between a stupid question and "questions people ask out of fear of the unknown." That's a very easy distinction.

90+ percent of my comments about Saban are supportive and complimentary. I think more of Saban as a head coach than any other head coach in the country - including ours. My posts on TideFans and every other forum support that. But I am not a sycophant, posting what others want to hear. I apologize if that sometimes grates on your nerves. That is not my intent.

Well, I find B1GTide tolerable, he's welcome to post or not - that's up to him. However, as regards to this thread, he's derailed it. I usually check this thread daily every week for practice reports, injury updates, and other such items relating to the upcoming game and opponent - not an ongoing argument over how Coach answered a reporter's question or used said question to send a message to the team or whomever needed to receive said message. So, for me, I'd like for the thread to get back to it's intended purpose if possible. Of course, if anyone feels differently, by all means carry on.
