Well, I will be surprised if he is even on the Mizlou Television Network, a former editor from ESPN new letter even went after his head.

His fall from lead ABC announcer to SEC backwater games tells you he stepped on some toes, but had enough markers to call in to keep his job. Maybe he can become Mixons agent. God knows he will need a good one to get drafted. Cant wait to see the backlash the NFL team will have to handle if they draft him.

Christine Brennan is not the one to make this case. She should have quit after the Duke lacrosse fiasco. Seriously - all of her columns are the same cry of victimhood of the genetic sisterhood.

He's bad, she's worse. I'm convinced she's one of those people who listens in order to feign umbrage and write the same column. My Gawd, she all but said that Erin Andrews deserved it.

Brent does need to go - so does Brennan.

Was going to say something similar. Christine Brennan and Nancy Armour for USAToday are essentially the girls on the playground who would announce to the whole group of kids that they were telling on you for using a bad word. They tug on the teacher's arm and point at you and smile smugly at you and pat themselves on the back or making the playground a more tolerant place. Self appointed monitors whose set of morals aren't guided by true personal convictions but are based on a worldview that is evolving and changing with the latest and greatest in outrage technology.

To round it back to sports, Musburger should have never even brought it up. I haven't watched the tape and honestly, I don't WANT to go watch a girl get her jaw broken just so I can be in the know. It really is time for him to move on.

I agree with this. It's just too controversial...just call the plays - "play by play" and let your color commentator "describe what he sees" and leave the life issues out of it!!!

I was on a flight with Brent from Ft. Lauderdale to Atlanta. He was in seat 1b I was in seat 2b. The guy in 1a tried talk to him and he acted like the guy didn't even exist. I never even spoke to him. Gave off the impression he was just bigger than it all.

OMG, now I've read the article (I stopped when I saw the byline) - and it's worse than I thought.

Brent got a second chance and blew it.

NO, he refused to kowtot to PC nutbags like Christine Brennan.

Let's be clear: if Brent did ANYTHING, he was hosed.

If he didn't mention it, Brennan would be whining about that.

If he blasted Mixon for what he did, the social media mob rule would have said, "Yeah, an old white man is ripping a young black man because it's a white woman."

He mentions it, but I'll admit he botched this one a bit.

He should have just said nothing - and when she (or someone of actual importance) whined about it afterwards, Brent should have said, "The courtroom is down the street - this was a football game."

I have always hated the way he could not say the word "Hawkeyes." He always said "Hackeyes."
His audio leering at AJ's girlfriend was awkward.
The Mixon episode was a a minefield he walked into.

Didn't read the article, but I agree with the thread title, though I think it's about 30 years too late. His voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

ETA: although if he had never had a career, Kevin Nealon could never have poked fun like this, so I suppose his existence in the sports world isn't 100% bad...

I think Brent was just agitated by the insanely Juvenile and sophomoric chant of " he hits women" that came from that group of Auburn losers

It's sorta funny these folks had a problem with the BDS guy playing "take the money and run," isn't it?

Long past time...

He always grated...

Admittedly, I was spoiled by having had been weaned on Keith Jackson's play-by-play, but that still doesn't alter the fact that the guy has always gotten under my skin...

I thought of Al Campanis when Brent was defending Mixon. This was certainly not as bad as the Campanis episode, but it was clear Brent had stepped into quick sand when he started defending his position. I can't imagine the crew didn't go over how to handle the Mixon situation before the broadcast. As Selma said, the best way to handle it was to not mention it.

I like Brent. Didn't agree with the way he handled the Mixon stuff, but, I can let it go. It was 2014, anyway. Get over it.

Now, Christine and other "pot stirrers"? THEY need to go...NOW.

Admittedly, I have to say I liked Brent, especially after him talking about "mauling" down in New Orleans. Seems like a lifetime ago.

Still, it's about that time.

Yes. It was a minefield. But he should have avoided it. Especially knowing his previous transgressions had to be suppressed and apologized for by his employer. He has a "stuck in the 60's" mentality IMO.

He should go. And hopefully he will rethink his stance and issue a sincere apology before doing so. But I don't expect it.

To paraphrase Keith Jackson--the players and coaches own the field, not some broadcaster trying to make a name for himself. Brent has always made everything about him and not the game, coaches nor players.
I'll trade my Musburger for 12 Lundquist and say thank you sir !
