Plain Trouble on "Da Plains" (all AU posts here)

They had our number before 1960. Not too shocking, as they were 1 of the 2 best programs in the SEC until right around the time Bear came along, then they had a major drop off from which they never recovered.

2 of the last 3 times they played us they caught us having very poor seasons, 2008 before Tommy's firing and 2012 before Gene's.
Vandy was very good through the 20s, they were decent thereafter til '59. They were never close to being 1 or 2 in the SEC from its inception in '33 thru '59. Bama, LSU, UT, UGA, GT, Tulane, OM were better programs during that period, all of whom won 3 or more SEC titles. In fact, 9 programs had won titles by then. Vandy never won one, they only had 9 winning SEC records in the 27 seasons from '33-'59, only one of which was more than 2 games over .500. AU was just not very good from '22-'52 - 9 winning seasons. The first 20 years of the SEC, '33-52, AU had 5 winning SEC seasons and 5 winless seasons. Though in the bottom half of the SEC, Vandy was just better than AU. Then in Shug's 3rd season in '53 things dramatically turned around, then Coach Bryant arrived in '58. AU remained decent to good, but not at the sustained level they had from '53-60, .793. From '61 to the end of Bryant's tenure .621.

I know. What was with the "smart" schools being good at football in those days?

They were able to deploy their work-study and night-school students for the flying wedge without fear of or concern for unionizing, CTE or taking their last breath at the point of contact...

^^ And yet Jay Jacobs continues to draw a paycheck from AU, shameful. The new president needs to commence with a purge of the old establishment - starting with the AD. I had a lengthy discussion with an AU fan at work yesterday, one that knows all the powers that be in the athletic department, and it was mentioned there were problems in women's basketball (which we've been hearing rumors of for some time) but there is also a potential issue with the soccer team. The article linked above certainly doesn't do anything to help Jacobs. This person doesn't see any way Jacobs survives - and rightfully so.

ESPN with some more background on Clint and Corey Myers.

"On Aug. 17, 2017, Outside the Lines requested records from Auburn regarding any investigations or disciplinary action against Corey Myers. Outside the Lines has inquired about the records requests about a dozen times but has yet to receive any records. Alabama state law does not include a deadline by which state agencies must respond to records requests."

This is an athletic department in a tail spin. Jacobs at this point doesn't know whether to "scratch his fanny or wind his watch". This, followed by Person scandal, and a rumored title XI issue with women's basketball shows the disarray here. After Gus loses for the 4th straight year to both Georgia and Alabama, this place will go nuclear.

Breaking from Outside the Lines on ESPN: Auburn hires firm to investigate allegations a tutor took exam for football player on 2016 team..

Is there a single sport on the plains not being investigated??

It sounds like they should fire the compliance staff and hire this outside firm to handle compliance. Oh, wait!~ Pat Dye and Old Yellowwood might not be able to control the outside firm.
