I couldn't believe he threw the pass to Juedy that resulted in our first TD.

I'll give credit to him that he had the courage to break his tendency to throw 50-50 balls and do it.

That said, taking a look at his total stats (http://www.espn.com/college-football/matchup?gameId=400933932) his total yards passing from this game would have only been 67 total yards on 12 completions without this "lucky" completion that could have been called OPI.

67 yards is all we got from the QB passing game out side of one unscripted, lucky play. That won't beat decent teams.
Yes, but in fairness add yards for DPI. Still not good, but a little better.

That's my leading candidate for a rule-change closer to the NFL or make it unsportsmanlike conduct when it's deliberate. (I know, more discretion to the stripes.) It's become a travesty...

100% agree. There is no reason at all for a college DB to NOT just tackle a receiver if the ball is more than 15 yards downfield.

From BR... going back it did sound harsher than I intended it to be.

Yes, you may be onto something there. I know that is the thread title and we seem to have turned to what is happening now rather that the QB battle for next year. Does anyone here see Jalen as an NFL QB? Are we not trying to help our guys get to the next level if that is their dream? Would Jalen change positions to get to the league? As Earle said earlier...will be fascinating to see what unfolds.
you never know how much one can improve in 2 years. but as of now, no.

He said he is "one of the better QBs in college" according to statistics. Frankly, I am surprised at all the venom and I am not speaking to you only Rich.
The saying "the QB gets too much credit when the team wins and gets too much criticism when the team loses". The comeback victory over MSU was "Hurts legend continues to grow" and we know what some are saying now after the Barn game. I am sure Jalen can not wait to play the next game.

I'd much rather Bama win so whether that means Jalen coming out fired up or swapping him out - whatever gets Bama the "W."

If only this insight had applied all year when some people had raised observations and even concerns about JH's play.
I can't think of anything being said for most of the year in regards to Jalen Hurts that really had anything to do with why Alabama lost the game. I've been looking into some stats and the conclusion I've reached is that the problem (and there is one) is actually that Hurts does too much, not that he can't do enough. I had some concerns I voiced here a while ago, about wanting him to run less and things like that, but it wasn't until I really looked at some stats and saw what others had to say that the problem became more obvious. The older complaints I've generally been seeing is that Alabama needs more from the position. The fact is they need less.

First of all, he is a legitimate college QB, though not for all systems. Secondly, what position would he play ? IMO, he's overrated as a runner, good but not nearly great. He has good top-end speed, but no quickness.

Bama does need more from the position in terms of passing. Specifically, pocket patience and presence, quicker decisions, and pulling the trigger quicker. Also, better decisions on the RPOs. His running and intangibles are good to great, he even throws the ball fairly well for a college QB.

I think what's happening now is a direct correlation though to any competition next year. As far as developing players for the NFL, it's hard to change positions for every player just to get them a shot at the NFL. In most cases, you either develop and advance at your position or you do not.

But if I think about it, if he doesn’t run the ball, what does he bring to the table?
He’s not a quick read or consistently accurate passer.
He doesn’t really fit the game manager drop back passer thing, his running ability is what makes him up to this point.
But, he could still grow in time.
