Alabama DC Search (2017)

Honestly, I wouldn't manage time that way.

Spend a ton of time preparing for a team that you might not even play at the expense of time that you could spend on the opponent on your schedule for January 1st? Some time - yeah - lots of time - I wouldn't - but I really don't know how much time is spent on future opponents during this period.

I agree. Saban said they probably would focus on fundamental for first few weeks, and then start game prep a week before the game. For a game against Clemson, I think there's more work on Clemson side since Alabama have new OC.

rgw,

I didn't even see any graphic contents, still don't know, I obviously didn't pay attention - sorry. I'm embarrassed.

According to USA Today article on Pruitt, Nick did not interview anyone when Kirby left, he called Pruitt and hired him. Who ever Nick wants it will not be dragged out, he will call guys on his premade list and hire the first one that says yes. He does not interview, he apparently does all this research way before he needs them. Then just calls an offers it to them. Now that is a process.

FWIW, I am betting on Tosh Lupoi as our next DC -- with CNS bringing in a top of the line LB coach. The question would be can he anticipate and make the correct calls as DC? I will say this...he's had some great teachers...CNS; JP.

If we can do well in the playoffs we should be set for next year...this changing major coordinators every year or so is wearing me out!!

Get used to it, as long as you win and the OC and DC get the print they do they will get picked off. Price of success, just be glad Nick is here until he retires. He is the key, he has shown he can win titles with new OC and or DC and different style QB's etc. I hate the moves while in playoffs but that is why they get hired away, we keep making CFP.

This seemed odd to read, my recollection was that he’s gone through interviews for offensive guys, had to do it a few more times obviously, so I was pretty sure Saban has interviewed folks before - here he interviewed mcelwain:

anyway, I’d imagine he’d do interviews if he needs to

Well being a defensive guy he knew ahead of time who he wanted. As I posted before, it is known Saban keeps a list 5 deep on all assistant positions. He is always updating it so he has his top 5 ready for any possibility of a guy leaving. I am sure he would interview some, but if he knows the guy like he did Pruitt he already knew he would fit. I am sure for OC , interview is more likely as Nick is not a Offensive guy per say,his history is defense. I am sure he knows the defensive coaches around the leagues better.I still love he has premade list updated constantly for possible replacements. His attention to this kind of details keeps him from starting from scratch when he needs to replace a guy. Maybe that is why with all the coaching changes it has been pretty seamless so far.

This is true. I knew in advance that the first call on Saban's list for DC was Pruitt, if Smart left. That's exactly what happened...

I prefer Chizik to Chavis. Good talent developer, game planner (including in game adjustments), familiar with Saban and the conference, recruited really well at Auburn.

Is this Gene? I can't believe anyone would want Chizik. That dude was such a buffoon at Auburn. I know he had a good reputation as a defensive coordinator before becoming Auburn's head coach, but he seemed to lose his mind a bit down on the plains.

Unfortunately the pool of candidates he would like to call on have become HCs.

Might be interesting if he followed the same route as OC and went with a current NFL coach.
