2017 Sugar Bowl Prep Thread (Practice Reports, Press Conference Updates, etc.)

I want to say a decision was made to lighten the LB weight from 250ish to 235-240. I know Ruben played lighter as a senior than he did in his earlier years. I also seems to remember that Mack even trimmed down over the offseason.

Traditionally 3-4 LBs play at a little heavier weight than 4-3 LBs. I wonder if the lower weight yet playing with the same physicality is putting greater stress on bone and ligaments?

Sounds like today's practice might have had similar results as yesterday's. Just a different position.

Thankfully it looks like the early talk was worse than the actual injury.

Denote Thompson was banged up.

At what point do all these injuries in practice start to get in our guys heads? I would hate for that to detract from focus on game prep as well as fundamentals.

This may be Saban’s biggest postseason coaching job yet.

The injury news today has given me anxiety. I hope Dieonte can play in the game since we know Hootie can’t.

Maybe we should just have walk thrus. How did he hurt his knee? Let’s hope nobody on offense gets injured or we will be in big trouble.

I'll go with what you're hearing '91, as this is what I just saw on twitter:

“Deionte Thompson literally did the Mettenberger crawl to a trainer today and then was carried off the field. So look for that name in the media soon.” From a source at practice...

Really hoping that it is just a painful bruise and he will be able to play against Clemson. His father seemed optimistic on twitter.

Let's just hope for the best because A. We need his play making ability B. I'm tired of the injury situation and C. I don't want a true freshman playing safety in this game. I just pray if he isn't hurt too bad that he's 100% for the game. You know the media will pile on now.

[h=1]ESPN College Football analyst Brad Edwards joined The Game with Ryan Fowler to discuss Alabama's offensive woes on
third down against top level defenses and previews the CFB Playoffs.

[/h]Posted Dec. 12. Likely posted earlier here but Bama's statistics on third down put them at the bottom of the NCAA

I would seriously wrap Mack Wilson in bubble wrap leading up to this game. Limit his practice time, let him heal. Don't let him get injured. Have a personal bodyguard with him at all times. Whatever.

Would agree, but also need our guys who’ve been out getting up to full game speed...no perfect answer to balance guys getting in game shape and resting to avoid injury

I was standing about 10 yards from Deionte when he got the injury. He tried to make a play on the ball and collided with another player. It looked like he just bumped knees with the offensive player. It didn’t look like anything too serious. I would expect him to be available by the Clemson game.

Awesome. I hope you're right. Does the defense look to be in good shape if he is ? Also, is the offense going to look better ? The team better be ready for war with Clemson. It's going to be a tough game.

Not gonna lie Hurts looked really good today in practice. You have to take into consideration the fact that they weren’t in pads but he was throwing the ball over the middle of the field on a dime to his receivers. Coach Saban and coach Pruitt were ripping into the defense pretty hard today. Coach Saban had a great speech at the end of practice that would give anyone chill bumps. The boys are ready to play I can tell you that.

I hope the offense isn't peaking too soon. :)

Yea! Hope that carries over to the game.

That is so neat that you get to watch practices. I would love to do that at least once. Actually, I would love to be a volunteer water girl just to be there daily. My relative who works in the Athletic department goes to some of the practices and all the games. I don't get to talk too much about it with him however.

Just got this book in yesterday. It's an updated one. The author, Tommy Ford, has written several good books about Bama football over the years. I hope he gets the chance to write another one next year about how Bama won NC #17!

The Sugar Bowl is the first step to #17. I hope our players can stay healthy and injury free (and trouble free) through January 8th. I do not want to see another injury on any of the practice reports! RTR!
