Bama Coordinator Search Thread

Does anyone know exactly how many coaches we will need to hire? I realize the number depends on a few decisions Yet to be made by CNS. Just a list of some sort. Thanks.

As well as Arrelious Benn.

No doubt. But you just want the best you can get and not settle. But in a college coach, there is more to consider than technical expertise - especially recruiting, also fit, etc. So, CNS has to balance all of those things.

And I trust him to do this more than I do players and former players, members of the media, and even posters on this board (as much as I love this board).

That would seem to be a sign that they're losing a defensive coach and considering Golding is a supposed LB or DB guy, it would lean towards somebody who is coaching linebackers.
No, that's to fill remaining spot, which is pruitt. He can coach secondary and Golding inside LB.

Here's the truth, CNS hasn't always hit home runs with OC hires. Applewhite wasn't good, and Nuss was awful, Kiffin was good but troubled, Daboll didn't have enough time and the QB to run his system to know for sure, Sark was in and out so fast my head spun. Coach Mac was his best hire in my opinion. I'm a little nervous about Locksley because he was passed over when Kiffin left and when Sark left. Does CNS see something that troubles him in this situation, or is just his philosophy as an OC doesn't fit where CNS wants to go?
?????????? Nuss won a chanpionship with us. Applewhite wasnt ready but turned out to be real good OC later down the road. Kiffin got us to playoff... and sark only had one week to prepare... that's bit too much to make those argument... Saban has done good job of picking OC that can get us the wins....

Yep, Long is the most interesting name I've seen floated so far.

Unfortunately, we probably lose Locksley if he isn't named OC. But the fact that he hasn't already been given the position probably means that Saban is somewhat reluctant to hand him the offense.
Not necessary.

Not sure about Chip but I'm with you on Locks. I don't think Coach really has to make a quick hire though because he, Tosh, Locks and our two new coaches are more that capable of landing our last 8 recruits. The staff decisions are going to be critical going forward.
Yes, coach has to make quick hires because recruits is going to want to know who will run offense and how the offense will be called.

I don't know, I would rather we got the right guy than make quick hire just to appease recruits. And yes I know how important recruiting is.

Nus - NC
Kiffen - NC
Daboll - NC

So Applewhite wasn't ready? That sounds like a bad hire to me. Nuss didn't have an imaginative bone in his body, and left in a sideways move to go to UM where the whole lot got fired and offense was bad. He then went to UF where the offense was bad again, and he got fired again. Anyone paying attention can see Nuss was politely told to get out of T-town. If you read my comment on Kiffin I said he was good but troubled. Kiffin's issues are outside the lines. Sark left town five minutes after totally abandoning a running game in the NC game even with a clearly very good Harris available as well as Jacobs. I don't care if you've been on the job five minutes abandoning the running game in that game was the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Bama has gotten alot of wins with the OC's CNS has brought in, but they have not been home run hires.

I think lot of folks would disagree with you. Nuss was one of the hire that wasn't exactly homerun hire. Everyone else was at least solid hire. Not everything has to be homerun hire. Just hire someone who can call the game and we have done that

Nus - NC
Kiffen - NC
Daboll - NC

Kiffin is great on the field, but a nightmare off, and people were screaming about Daboll all year. Maybe he would have seemed better with a different QB. He certainly did in the second half of the NC, but we will never know. Give me a break on Nuss. He walked into a stacked situation with AJ and that offensive line. I could have won ten games calling plays for that group.

Forget Applewhite and Sark - they are both anomalies.

Besides those two, every OC at Bama has won at least one NC and only one lost more than two games (CJM, once), and every year Bama has been ranked 4th or higher in the SEC in PPG scoring in the SEC.

I'm glad both McElwain and Nussmeier are both gone - I don't care for their conservative play calling - but every OC Saban has hired has won at the highest levels.

Saban could do a lot worse than Jed Fisch. UCLA’s offense was better than USC’s for most of the season despite losing our TE and #1 WR to injuries.

I know many here don't want Freeze. I'm not big on it myself.

That being said, Saban has been very complimentary of him in the past, and they are pals. Until a hire is made or Hugh has a new job, I will not dismiss the idea of Saban hiring him.

He checks off pretty much every box of any previous Saban Coaching Rehab Center patient.

I don't recall egregious NCAA trouble being a checkbox.
