Bama Coordinator Search Thread

Aside of the character issues, I think Freeze will move on after 1 year and I'd rather have some consistency with the QBs. I'd prefer Chris Long or someone who would be around for at least 2 years.

Given this is all he got,
Nevertheless, he was given a one year "show cause" order, but only as a hiring as a HC. We could still theoretically hire him as OC...
When everyone else was thinking death penalty, makes me think his chances are better than I originally thought.

If CNS goes with Chip Long I would not be surprised. He’s going to do what he always has done, go with who he’s most comfortable with AND who he TRUSTS most to get the job done. You’d think there’d be less doubters after FIVE national championships in 9 years. ;)

I agree on hiring who's best, I wonder though when he went with Kiffin primarily if he went outside his comfort zone and hired someone maybe he wasn't totally comfortable with but at the same time would be best for the team. I think maybe even given Freeze case, since Saban is good friends with him maybe he sees him as a best fit for the team and possibly one he's comfortable with? Not sure, it's a guessing game right now.

If he wasn’t meeting with CNS about the OC vacancy, what were they discussing?

CNS has brought in people every year that he didn't hire (some were employed coaches not looking for work) in order to pick their brain and learn from them. Lots of offensive guys, in fact. This could be nothing more than that, but since we have an OC opening, people understand there's a possibility that's what he's talking to him about.

I don't necessarily see HF as a position coach, but who know - he might understand that image rehabilitation is more important as status right now.

And of course, they might just be friends having lunch together.

I don't know the full story on Freeze but the little I have seen here or there makes me concerned if he is the OC hire. That said, we would probably avg 50 points a game with him as OC and the talent we have returning on that side.

I would reckon that he may offer Hugh Freeze an analyst position if we promote Locksley so he can be a sort of right-hand-man to Locks. I'd imagine we'd go an arrange where Locksley is in the booth again so he can lean on the analysts. Just a reckon with no real knowledge but it feels right.

Even if you took away the NCAA and his personal problems. When did Hugh Freeze ever develop any kind of running game at Ole miss???? Yeah they looked great when they played Alabama but when they weren't playing their super bowl, their lack of a running game constantly tanked them. They constantly blew big leads because they had no concept of how to run out the clock.
Maybe the 2 years ('14 and '15) when they also had over 2,000 yards rushing.

It's my understanding that the analyst can't communicate with the OC during the games.

I don't want Freeze anywhere near this program and, honestly, I'm shocked so many seem to be okay with it after blasting him just a month or so ago for what he did to Ole Miss. I would be very disappointed if Saban hires that creep. What's next, hiring a Briles or Paterno, seriously, is it all about winning so much that we no longer care about morals?

Years ago, no one here wanted to even entertain the thought of going after Bruce Pearl because of his character. Well, Freeze is worse. Freeze is a morally corrupt scumbag, womanizer and cheat who is willing to pay players to win. Don't need that at Alabama and, you are not going to change my mind on his despicable character.

I'd be ok with Freeze giving advice about who should get the job or maybe even as a consultant. As far as an official title like OC, I would really object to that. Maybe I could buy rehabbing him through an addiction issue but the call girls plus all the NCAA shenanigans plus flat out lying about it plus the hypocrisy.... And then who knows what else that didn't become public.

The PR ramifications of this one are far different than Kiffin and Sark.

This ^^^ Agree 100%. In fact., I'd say its even worse than the above, because Freeze is also an unrepentant FALSE PROPHET who wrapped himself in a false mantle of Christianity and LIED about his supposed "Faith" to advance his corrupt agenda.

TOTALLY different situation than Kiffin or even Sarkesian. Totally Different.

It could also be that he's simply helping to get Freezes name back out there , simply doing him a favor. Interviewing for a Bama position could go a long way in easing other programs decisions to pursue him. It's been a common practice in coaching for one coach to kind of help get the monkey off a back for another.

So because some have negative comments about him you feel he'll be an analyst?

Just going by what Saban did previously. Lane and Sark both had issues. If I am not mistaken, both were hired for off the field positions first before being hired as a coordinator. There is a reason the University of Alabama and the sports department have public relations people. They do care about public perception and public opinion. No one was going to hire Freeze until the NCAA came down with their final decision. Did we have a position open for an analyst at the time that happened? I don't know.

Goodness, not to high-speed rail this one to NS, but how one earth do you know what the man has repented of or not?

You know what, don't answer it - I'm not sure you're in the right state of mind to not cross the line on this one.

That said, I'll step back and let all you sinless people start casting stones.

Lane was never on staff prior to being named OC. Saban brought him in for consulting prior to the Oklahoma game after the 2013 season.

Sark was hired right as there was some talk LSU might hire him to be OC, so he was moved to an analyst role with the intention of a smooth transition from Kiffin when Lane departed.

We always have an available analyst job for the right guy. Always.
