Bama Coordinator Search Thread

Ole Miss had talent at WR and TE but not so much at RB. Their run/pass balance dictated that reality. I think they would've ran more if they could because at their core they were an RPO offense. The better you run, the better you RPO.

Re: Bama Coordinator Seach Thread

Trying not to get myself in trouble by saying this. But the SEC was not the toughest conference in 2016. Every team except for Alabama had at least 4 losses. They had to invite a 4 loss auburn team to the sugarbowl (who got destroyed by Oklahoma).
The SECE has been week for several years now - winning a division that's been ranked lower than the Mountain West isn't exactly a major accomplishment for a real program: https://www.cbssports.com/college-f...orse-than-a-mountain-west-division-seriously/

The SEC West is 9-1 vs. the East in 2016, raising the West's record against the East to 91-36 (.717) since 2009. That's when Urban Meyer's SEC reign ended and Nick Saban's started.

The huge gap is even worse in shorter intervals. The West is 33-7 (.825) against the East over the past three years and 22-3 (.880) in the past two seasons.

Re: Bama Coordinator Seach Thread

I just don't think I'd enjoy watching Freeze call 20 wide receiver screens a game.

Sure it is - if you are making unreasonable posts. As far as it affecting the coach, obviously one post, or one subject is not going to have an effect; but it piles up over time, affects the media's coverage, other fans and the attitude and spirit of the program. Aaron Suttles commented recently that Saban was growing tired of the increasing criticism. The whining after the AU was pathetic. What if he goes 10-3? The constant whining, no matter what, could push him over the edge. No one nor he is claiming his infallibility, but the arrogance and lack of propriety by some Bama fans is unbecoming. Have some fun and if you have criticisms, do it with respect. This is the toy store of life. This is a great and fun moment in Tide history.

How's that for fan posting etiquette 101? Sorry to be so preachy.

I love what Coach Saban has done here. But I have been an Alabama Fan long before he came here and I have the right to whine about losing to an inferior team because we would not even give the other QB a chance. I grew weary watching such talent struggle. If Coach grows weary listening me whine then that seems fair to me. Whining after AU was not pathetic, it was well deserved. As to the going 10-3 ..... #1 recruiting classes six years in row and then go 10-3 with three cupcakes mixed in? I guess there is never a reason to complain.

Ladies and gentlemen make no mistake it's fans like these that will drive Coach Saban to an early retirement!

Dumpster fire or not, that's still 2 division titles in the toughest conference in America.

Pinkle won it two years in a row, but I don’t see people saying that was a huge accomplishment. Gus actually won the conference championship but many bama fans still use the “high school” coach stance.

How Daboll left Why Daboll left doesn’t bother me just glad he is gone. Daboll was over his head and wasn’t a very good coordinator. As to Tua and Jalen both young men seem to be handling the situation like champions. This other “information” about Daboll leaving over not being able to pick his QB if true at all seems like sour grapes.

You certainly have the right to complain; and there are mistakes made, but IMO, you've lost some perspective. What you have expressed is the feeling of many.

It is mostly based on the fact that Bama has recruited well. The thought is that Bama is superior to every opponent, so they should win every game, thus only coaching can botch it. First of all, the fact that Bama is number one doesn't usually mean what many think, especially in regards to Bama, because any recruit that Bama gets is assumed to be among the best - the "Bama bump" is real. So, Bama's rankings are a bit inflated. Couple that with the fact that there's usually not that much difference between 1 and 5, sometimes even 10, makes the rankings a bit misleading. Secondly, even if the rankings were as precise as what many think, which they're not, the raw material is just one factor in producing good football players and a good football team. Individual development and so much more than the raw material is required to make a great player and team, a NC winning team. OSU, UF, FSU, Clemson, Auburn and UGA are close or even with Bama in players in the NFL - LSU is ahead. Ask Urban Meyer, the 2nd best coach, who has the same amount of talent, how difficult it is to win a NC, even with that great talent. According to a source I read/heard UGA had more 5 star talent than Bama this year 7-6. So, Bama had six 5 stars out of 85, but everyone thinks/says they replace one 5 star with another. That's how the media portrays it - I'm not blaming them in this case :).

There are probably 5-6 teams on Bama schedule per year, counting playoffs, that have a legit chance of beating Bama without a herculean effort or a multitude of TOs. All you need is talent in the ball park to win. Another couple could win under extraordinary circumstances. But Bama navigates nearly every one, every year. It happens multiple times every single week in college football, that the lesser talented team wins. Bama has proven almost invulnerable to such losses. Since 2008 all 14 losses out of 139 games were to ranked teams, have been last possession games, except Utah, SoCar, '17 AU (despite the score, OU in '13 was a one possession game). All have been 4th qtr games and none have been blowouts. That's incredible. Bottom line the most talented team, real or imagined, looses frequently. Bama has almost been immune. But Bama is held to an unrealistic and uninformed standard by some of its fans.

No one has ever done this. It's more remarkable because of the current world of college football. Far more parity than ever. Even the skeptics have been silenced now. That pass cemented this. Only opposing crazies and a few Bama fans don't understand what has been done and/or how to react.

How would it sound to be whining about Coach Bryant ? And there were many who did. But at the end, which in some ways was sad, the most appropriate thing was just to say, "thanks Coach, for 25 great years". Saban deserves at least that much himself. He knows he makes mistakes and is very self-critical - he's one of the most aware people I've observed from a distance. A primary attraction to this program, was the appreciation that the fan base showed he and his wife when they arrived. I'm sure this was one of Coach Moore's selling points. He has mentioned it numerous times in the subsequent years. The whining genuinely bothers him, though he does a good job of understanding. IMO - am I naïve - fan appreciation and Mal Moore (even today) have been the strongest intangible, among many tangible, bonds that have kept him from leaving for other opportunities.

Don’t get me wrong I love my team and have followed them since 1966, however whoever thinks the program is bigger than Coach Saban has forgotten what we became post Coach Bryant and has forgotten who we were prior to CNS arrival in 2007. One day Coach will step aside and we will not see days like we have seen since 2009. Not saying we will tank it but our dominance will take a step back from where we are.

This program is bigger than Nick Saban, and what almost happened with Jalen and Tua could have wrecked the program.

Well, it is certainly his to wreck. He did land both at the Capstone in recruiting a feat that few, very few could ever have done. Do you even remember what our recruiting was like 11+ years ago? When had we ever gotten a #1 recruiting class in Tuscaloosa in the modern era? Any Era? Nope, we have all turned into a bunch of whiney nitpickers unable to comprehend what is unfolding before our eyes.:rolleye2:

There comes a time when it is time to retire. I'll use Bobby Bowden as an example AND PLEASE NO ONE CLAIM I AM WANTING COACH SABAN TO RETIRE. Bobby Bowden stayed too long. In the end they had to run him off. That is what was sad -- not the fans complaining and criticizing him but the fact he refused to admit he was washed up as a contender and had become an also ran. Yes, I was one who criticized The Bear in his last few years and I was glad he retired with dignity instead of going out the Bowden way. I don't care how big a legend a person is there comes a time when it is time. I certainly don't want Coach Saban to leave prematurely.
