I'm not even really talking about gun control. We as a country need to come to grips with this stuff and figure it out on multiple levels.

I don't find just repeating thoughts and prayers (tm) every few weeks very classy either. I would imagine all the dead kids would find it classier to actually start doing something about it. But when the survivors step up and ask for it they get called crisis actors and all manner of other insults. Which is also classy.

No argument there, still a dbag post considering the satirical nature of it as it relates to 8 deaths.

I have no idea what the answer is. If I felt like we could give up all guns and trust our government to do the right thing -- I'd say "let's think about it"..... But when you read about all of these people wanting to control guns...are the same folks who trust our current leader/government the least. Why would you want only those in power to control the weapons? I just don't see the logic in that.

I'm also not a historian, but many folks believe that part of the reason we have become the "beacon of hope" for people around the globe, and (for the most part) have been "war free" at home for 150 years....is because we are an armed citizenry.

And with that -- we have events like this which happen. I'm not sure what the right path is anymore. It sure doesn't feel like giving up...though. And (to me) making firearms illegal is a bad path to take.

But -- since this is moving that direction -- maybe we should move this discussion back to the perpetual gun-control thread.

Perhaps it is. But maybe it's time for dbag posts when we have to have this same conversation so often. The point of my post was the normalization of it to the point that 8 deaths makes people barely bat an eye anymore - other than throwing out "thoughts and prayers" to show the world how concerned they are while not bothering to throw any thoughts or prayers (or god forbid action) into fixing things.

Let's take the guns from his detail first....
The root of the problem is the people, not the inanimate object they are using. Examples abound around the world that in the absence of guns humans will take whatever means available to take a life. So why don't we retrain the brain behind all these thoughts? Somewhere along the way we've lost common values of respect and decency that transcend religion, politics, race, gender, and other differences in society. Unless we return those values to everyone in society we will continue to see stories like this.

As I posted earlier, this stuff is getting so normalized that we are becoming desensitized to it.

And it just seems to happen in a circular fashion. Mass Shooting - Thoughts and Prayers; This Isn't the time to discuss the problem - A few days/weeks go by, then rinse and repeat.

Before long, it becomes so impossible to believe that the only thing left is dark humor. I guess it's part of the human condition to just let horrible things happen and not try to do anything about it.

I have not, nor will I ever, go on a shooting spree. The only person on this planet I can control is me. The only person I will ever attempt to control is me. Taking liberties from citizens is a slippery slope that once you start down there is no return. The monster you create will surely come for you at some point.

It was me that said "thoughts and prayers" upstream.

I stand by my post and don't see anything wrong with it.

I never said this is all I have to say - nor did I say I had a solution.

It's more about wanting to pay some kind of respect - without getting all political. Lord knows there are plenty here who go in that direction without any help from me.

Please let me know what you would have me say, Matt. I would really like to know so I don't offend you as much in future incidents.

Thank you!
