Re: 2018 midterm elections catch-all thread

I went on to elaborate. It’s not working. They are changing things in those countries because it hasn’t worked. Money is running out like it always has.

by that definition, based on our persistent deficits, capitalism doesn't work either.

Re: 2018 midterm elections catch-all thread

That's an abstract Boogeyman term with a range of policy implications.

"We write unlimited blank checks for war, we just wrote a $2 trillion check for that tax cut, the GOP tax cut, and nobody asked those folks how are they going to pay for it. So, my question is why is it that our pockets are only empty when it comes to education and healthcare for our kids."

Sounds like she has an idea: repeal the Trump tax cuts for the 1% and take a hard look at the black hole of military spending. That may not be the detail of a white paper, but it's a far cry from having "no answer."
She has no answer. She misspoke on the military spending as well. I agree though with that war, even while I was serving I wasn’t on board with it. You question is a fair one. I don’t know if anyone has that answer, but when you mean education are you saying college or grade school. I paid my own way through college. So that’s where my money came from. I don’t believe college should be free.

Damn sure works for the west. Why do you think everyone is trying to come to America. It’s the only economy in history when you can go from nothing and be a billionaire/millionaire etc. socialism? Well, looking at Venezuela, they can’t even wipe their on tails, literally!

Now, some social programs work, but even those depend on capitalism to survive, Medicare for example.

you sure like to work in absolutes.

i thought one of the big problems with our world right now is that northern europe is being overrun with migrants from poor countries.

I’m not touching the migrant issues. That’s a problem though that’s weighing on their economy and making socialism worse.

I’m not dealing in absolutes. What I am saying is this. With socialism, money HAS to come from somewhere. You can’t tax people the death for it. The culture with be disrupted and people will get mad. Once money runs out anarchy.

I don’t want that in America. People become entitled to things and don’t won’t to work for it. Why should I have to work my tail off while sir at home dependent on the government when you can work.

FIFY

Government is incredibly wasteful and a grand promoter of unintentional consequences. We have mega threads promoted by leftists here discussing various forms of government stupidity. And yet, some want to come full circle, ignore basic economics and governmental reality, and push the idea that socialism is a good thing? That's the most delusional form of religion out there.

government is a damn sight preferable to anarchy.

i am not saying that socialism is necessarily a "good thing", i am saying it is not an inherently bad thing and reality supports that pretty well.

Re: 2018 midterm elections catch-all thread

Latest election day results show Dems fall short of 'blue wave' prediction for midterms

A Rasmussen Poll shows that the generic ballot now only favors Democrats by 4 points — well within the margin of error. Compare that to the generic ballot earlier this year that had Democrats ahead by a whopping 15 points. (Note: Before Democrats dismiss Rasmussen as being a Republican-leaning firm, it is important to point out that Rasmussen was one of only three polling organizations that called the 2016 presidential election accurately).
Famous last words......"Trump will never be president."

So take the linked article with a grain of salt.

What country is the world do you feel best represents what Socialism has to offer for anyone interested in your position, 92?

And why would someone want to live there....instead of here....despite our anarchy.

I honestly have no idea how one can look at government and say, "I want more of that."

ETA: Waste, unintended consequences, abuse ... all things in which government excels. To want a big government economic system ... how is that not an inherently bad thing? There's plenty of daily reality demonstrating that.

venezuela

personally, based on the times i have visited and the folks i know from there, i wouldn't have much of a problem living in germany aside from the cold. but i prefer the u.s. because i am from here and like it here.

but pretending that the concept of socialism (or government involvement for that matter) is a singular concept that can be supported or discredited by such a simplistic discussion is silly.

i honestly have no idea how someone can think that "government's bad, m'kay" is a compelling argument.
Then you really don't understand the first thing about how government works.

Since I started my new job, I don't get to post as much as I once did. For security reasons, I don't have access to non-essential websites and I have to secure my mobile phone. But, I've posted about government waste a lot in the past. I have managed hundreds of government contracts. Almost all of them (except some very small GPC buys) contain massive waste. Hundred of millions of dollars of waste. Forecast that over everything the government buys, and realize the federal government is the world's largest buyer of goods and services. More waste in reality than anything Man has ever conceived.

You can't champion that and be credible on the subject.

you should run on the libertarian ticket and eliminate government from our lives so that the shackles can be removed from our once great country.
