Politics: Midterm elections catch-all thread...

Re: 2018 midterm elections catch-all thread

Clinton's biggest mistake in 2016 was not doubling down on the deporables. She called them out and then got squeemish about it. She should have showed the independants exactly who they were getting bed with. Much of America has woken up to what and who he and they are now. We saw that last night

careful, you may make them act out

It was a good night for the Dems, for sure. But it was hardly the slam dunk they were hoping for, Especially if they lose Ga. governor. They really wanted governorships of both Fl and Ga heading into 2020.

Slightly edit version of a comment I stole off Reddit.

This wave (7 points) was bigger than 2010 (6.8) and 2014 (5.7). The GOP called 2010 a "revolution." This one was bigger and the GOP media will have you believe it was a disappointment.

Re: 2018 midterm elections catch-all thread

I'm just glad that there is one check against Trump and that Dems don't have unfettered control either. Neither the D's or the R's know how to govern. They know how to play games and that's about it.
All of this is why I can't "get into politics" because it's always a contest between 2 teams who's priority is not to work together to accomplish anything but to take any and all measures to thwart the other sides attempts to put plans into action that may or may not improve the state of this country.

It's a constant game of chess with both sides playing for a stalemate and 4 year term after 4 year term nothing of note gets accomplished.

At this point I wish 1 side or the other would gain 100% control of power and do SOMETHING of note.....anything that might be a step in the right direction of getting us out of ridiculous amounts of National Debt, to getting homeless people off the streets, to helping the impoverished people of this country in general including things like free Healthcare so the sick and elderly can get medical treatment... and maybe....MAYBE even getting out of occupying other countries where we have no business being in the 1st place.

It's past time to start looking after ourselves and working together to do it. But everybody seems to enjoy taking sides instead, digging in, and playing games of 'Gotcha' so one side can feel superior over the other.

It's playground antics 24/7 by adults.

Wow. Very well said, sir. My favorite post on this board.

Not that both sides are always great but there's only one of the two current sides that's even remotely interested in doing most of the things you hope for. Seems like it should be an easy choice for you (even if you still pine for better choices down the line like most do).

Yep, we will now have 2 years of nothing getting done at all. A lot of the same idiots just keep getting elected over and over, but in some cases we now have new power hungry idiots so there is that.

Re: 2018 midterm elections catch-all thread

Can't help but wonder if Trump had been willing to campaign on the economy and an economic plan going forward would the Democrats have had an opportunity to make any gains at all. Then it becomes a quandary for moderates. After facing the most uncivil attacks from the right it becomes expected of them to reach across the aisle to the corporatist who are dedicated to their destruction by any means possible.

I do totally agree that if the Dems proceed to emulate Trey Gowdy and Devin Nunes it would be to their demise. They need instead to focus on expanding the base of voters that
helped them win back the House.

I thought Pelosi set an excellent tone last night and should plan to transition her leadership to a Speaker who would be attractive to the voting base they need in 2020.
Probably so since the average voter is too ignorant to realize that the economy is artificially stimulated by massive deficit spending rather than on real fundamentals.

Re: 2018 midterm elections catch-all thread

I'm not sure Trump has the Miadas touch you guys all think he does. Trump endorsed 33 candidates on Twitter. 12 of them won.

Re: 2018 midterm elections catch-all thread

True enough, but the Dems need to send serious legislation to the Senate--as opposed to umpteen different bills to repeal Obamacare. They're playing with house money (heh).

It won’t matter - McConnell isn’t a “deal maker” in this environment. Anything the House sends to the Senate that isn’t “budgetary” in nature is DOA, unless Trump agrees with it. They won’t override Trump’s veto, or even try to.

Re: 2018 midterm elections catch-all thread

The dude thrives when he has an enemy. If the House Dems attack, he will just smile and attack back. If you put him in attack mode, he will win in 2020.

Their better approach would be to force him to veto veto veto. Get him on the record on votes the independents care most about.

But, we know that won’t happen.

Can’t get in the pen with the hogs....they know what to do

His cabinet members are going to get raked over the coals, and they’re going to go over his taxes with a fine tooth comb.
If they find any Russian money, his life will get difficult and he won’t like that - when the enemy becomes everybody, railing against them won’t help. Not even Trump.

That's not the point. The goal is to demonstrate that they are capable of responsible governance.

Re: 2018 midterm elections catch-all thread

some more great news from last night

https://www.businessinsider.com/wisconsin-governor-scott-walker-loses-to-democrat-tony-evers-2018-11

and LOL on Walker shooting himself in the foot to protect Trump.

Scott Walker, Wisconsin's Republican governor, was ousted from office in the state's closest gubernatorial race in more than 50 years in Tuesday's midterm elections— and he won't be able to ask for a recount because of a law he put in place.

With 99% of precincts reporting on Wednesday morning, the Democrat Tony Evers narrowly led Walker, 49.6% to 48.4%, according to The Associated Press. The gap was 1.2 percentage points, or about 31,000 votes out of the more than 2.6 million cast in the election.

After President Donald Trump won Wisconsin by just 23,000 votes in 2016, Walker signed into law a measure mandating that recounts would be allowed only when candidates are projected to be within 1 percentage point of each other.

The law triggers a free recount if the margin is 0.25 percentage points or less. When the margin is between 0.25 and 1 points, the candidate projected to lose must petition and pay for a recount.

Re: 2018 midterm elections catch-all thread

So I went out to eat the other night and who walks into the restaurant right after us? Human Garbage herself. I was civil but she didn't come near our table to campaign or she would have heard an earful. Proud of my neighbors in the 6th for rejecting this filth

it is nice to see the epitome of human garbage being taken out. i am glad she no longer represents our state.
