Game Thread: OFFICIAL POSTGAME THREAD - Bama v. The Sooners...

I am watching the game again now on SEC. It is pretty clear to me that Alabama could move the ball at will and had Oklahoma stump-trained by the 2nd quarter. Saban chose to rest the defense and grind out some conservative drives until the Okies started pretending like they belonged on the field. Then, he opened up the can as necessary. The team felt the gas being pulled back and they slacked up accordingly which produced the mental errors. When it counted, they pushed Okie's nose in the grass and booted them in the behind.

btw - It is clear in the replays that Samia put the knee in Murrays face after QW ripped his hat off. Samia should have been ejected from the game for his second unsportsmanlike conduct foul.

Fun fact. The 4 times OU QB’s have won the Heisman they had to face an SEC team in the postseason and they are a combined total of 0-4. In bowl games they are 1-6.

There was a play where Buggs ran lateral down the LOS to tackle Murray. One of the best plays of the night and all they talked about was how great Murray is.

The Dline was MVP of that game. They were disruptive on the "best OLine in the country". Only two things slowed them down, the refs lack of holding calls and the humidity.
You forgot the quotes. They've looked good all year but the the Bama DL owned that OL last night.

Another major reason IMO was to keep Tua upright and not risk further injury. Why take the risk if you don’t have to? Thought it was a really good game plan and quality execution by the staff and players. I truly think CNS knew the offense could impose their will in whatever way they chose to. With that in mind the focus turned towards two things 1) winning the game and 2) being as healthy as possible for 1/7.

That was the one match-up that I was uncertain about and Alabama owned that LOS. Their o-line is legit, but Q is from another planet.

Okay - FWIW - I couldn’t resist wasting a lot of time lurking on the Sooners message boards. I know some of us are frustrated by a few of their fans and the smack talk. So, I lurked.
I was quite impressed with how even-keeled a majority of the fans were. To sum it up they said/believe:
1. Mad props for CNS legacy
2. They want to be us one day and lament their Defense - yet are hopeful for the future.
3. In the end: Alabama was just “trying to run down the clock on the final drive with vanilla plays, but instead they kept getting 1st downs. That was nice of Nick to tell the team to a take knee at the 10-yard line with 60 seconds left. Kind of a professional courtesy.”
4. The simply don’t think Samira was in any way wrong. Thought we should hve been called for targeting instead. Thought it was a THUG move on our part. They see it their way, we see it our way. (I am still so mad about their guy stepped on Q's head, I can’t see straight.)
5. They generally had respectful run-ins with Alabama fans and were complimentary.
6. Riley did a hell of a job getting OU to stay in the game after the 28-10 whooping.
7. The onside kicks were dumb.
8. Refs were clearly for Alabama and biased against OU. Woof.
9. Alabama will beat Clemson.
10. Kyler was the clear Heisman winner given how well he played against the Alabama juggernaut.
11. Kyler is 5’11 and not 5’9.

I agree with 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 9.
Totally disagree with 4,8,10 and 11.

There. I just saved you a few hours. But, seriously, was impressed with a large volume of classiness.

The narrative I’ve noticed in some OU circles right now seems to be that their O was validated as the greatest out there because they put up over 470 yds against us and that KM showed his greatness against a vaunted SEC D by putting up over 300 yards passing and over 100 yds rushing against us. Big numbers to be sure but they conveniently leave out that virtually none of that happened until we were up 28-0.

I am curious though how Mack Wilson will grade out on this game. Was it just me or did he again look like he really struggled?

I’m happy we won. Would’ve preferred a larger margin of victory. Still, very glad to put an L on Oklahoma. Finally.

Well, let's say this: I think this kind of statement simply is complimenting us and validating our prowess. Sure, let them say their O is validated as the greatest out there against Alabama. Not greater than Alabama's!

I mean we didn't necessarily want to give up points but we made them burn a lot of clock for all 34 of their points. They were as big of a factor in shrinking the game as our run game once we got up 28-0 with 13:01 left in the 2nd quarter (43:01 left in the game). Here are the total times for each Oklahoma drive after going up 28-0:

Touchdown (28-7) - 1:13

Field Goal (28-10) - 3:14

End of Half (31-10) - 0:25

Field Goal (31-13) - 5:18

Touchdown (31-20) - 2:03

Touchdown (38-27) - 4:37

Touchdown (45-34) - 1:45

They used 18.5 minutes out of the remaining 43 minutes of the game while we only had one drive that lasted under 2 minutes in the entire stretch and only two drives that didn't end with points other than the victory formation drive. Their inability to stop our offense afforded us an opportunity to just make them bleed out the clock because they were already being held at arm distance. We may have defended different if the game were closer. The game got out of hand so quickly for OU that their offense became a glorified scramble drill for 75% of the game. This reminds me of those scrub quarterbacks in the NFL who play on a bad team but they're diamonds in the rough for fantasy owners because they pile on a lot of empty yards in the 2nd half.

Has anyone watched the coaches version of the broadcast?
What a fun group. Herm Edwards is a hoot. He is so knowledgeable and I think Herm is great for college football.
They were brutal on #11 on defense for ou. It also made me realize how good our coaches were at adjusting the play calls and Tua reading the defense.
Great in game coaching and execution.
Saban is goat.
Btw, Herm replayed the cns throwing of the headset, several times. :p_big: He loved it.

No they didn’t! OU stopped themselves![emoji12]
Direct quotes
Afterward, coach Lincoln Riley said the Sooners played "their worst ball" in the beginning of the game, and Murray said Alabama "didn't stop us."

"As you saw, they stopped us the first quarter, we stopped ourselves, but hats off to them," Murray said. "They're a good team. They've got a great defense. But second half, we picked up the tempo. They got tired, and at that point, we kind of ..."

The first half was almost unwatchable because they ignored the game being played and focused on a single play for far too long. They regularly found themselves behind by several plays and they often had no idea what the game situation was because of this.

The second half wasn't as bad and was far more enjoyable.

I worry about R. Davis' periodic lack of emotional discipline and related focus. Example, taking off his helmet. Why on God's green earth would he do that!?

Conversely, Alabama held them 107 yards and 15.5 points below their season averages entering the game.

Don’t know what board you got that from, but, that wasn’t my impression. Sooners mostly felt they were the better team, refs cheated, Murray is great. They failed to realize they were helped on of 2 of their drives by 15 yard penalties on Bama defense. One on third down after a stop and one on second down after a big sack. Plus OU won the third quarter, first quarter was all Bama, second quarter was a 10-10 tie, third quarter was 10-3 sooners, but only because Bama made OU go on 2 long , time consuming drives that ate up most of the quarter and the fourth was 14-14, with Bama taking a knee on the 6, which would of been a TD or at least a FG. Either way , Bama won the 4th. 43 of Murray’s rushing yards came in the meaningless final seconds of the 2 Nd quarter. Stats sometimes lie.

. We tried to run the clock, but couldn’t. The OU defense was just terrible. Moved the ball to easily!
