Looking like the following for assistants...

I think this is a much stronger staff than last year's group. I won't say Saban panicked last year but he made a larger program shaping decision rather than one simply about on-field coaching. I don't think Saban elevates two recruiters to coordinator then hire a bunch of noted recruiters unless he was sensing the importance of not slowly losing ground to TAMU and UGA by only bringing in top 10 classes. I think the acumen of our top staff members got exposed when the quality of opponent went up and Saban is splitting the difference this time around. Significantly more experience and quality experience on the offensive side. I imagine Saban mostly leaves Sark to it and Saban ends up taking on a more hands on role with the defense to tutor Golding into a true DC.

You nailed it rgw! I’m really impressed by the makeup of this staff. I’m thinking the biggest improvements will be on the defense and I think Sark will have more balance by running the ball. The LBs are to me the biggest concern. That, and getting the DL to have a bigger, and more consistent rotation in to gain depth with experience. Hopefully Dylan can take the field general mode to get the defense set more quickly. Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see how different the coaches change the identity of the team. Personally I think it’ll be noticeable.

You know, the AJC here in Georgia has really poo-pooed Sarkisian and said his offense wasn't that great, but never took into account the injuries and some of the other factors. Their offensive production was like 6th in the NFL.............their real problem like most years was their defense. I have some questions about Sarkisian, but it isn't his ability with QBs and offense.............but I think he probably proves many wrong. I hope he is extremely successful and stays for awhile and gets himself a ring

I have questions about Sarkisian. But as more time passes, the more I like the hire. Especially with the other coaching hires and recruiting class!

I'm gonna give the guy a chance...............his last tenure here for one game didn't really provide enough time to see what he could do, especially trying to do a plan on the fly

AJC Sports cadre tend to be happy accomplices to anything that can drag UA athletics through the mud. Especially now that Kirby came in and handed out marching orders to the state media. Saban did the same here, no fault to Kirby on that front but it didn't take much coaxing for AJC to become a Dawgs propaganda wing.

That is true................they beat the "Dynasty is over, Saban is finished" drum after 2016.............and then they got real downhearted after their beloved Dawgs ( to be fair, many of them love GT) got beat by Bama 2 times in one calendar year. That grates on the Dawg faithful, but fills the GT fans with glee

They don't call it the Atlanta Urinal Constipation for nothing :)

I mean this is a job at the end of the day and there are more reasons than just the job that causes folks to leave one. It is well known at this juncture that he's on the way out but he's still here helping Saban finish the 2019 recruiting class. I doubt he's got a bad relationship with Saban because he's doing this the way somebody who has a lot of respect for his boss would do it.

He may be leaving, but he's not burning any bridges.
Leaving Honorably.

My only real concern about Sark centers around two things.

First, is of course the off-field stuff. Second, I think he has an amazing track record with quarterbacks, but is he going to have time to really work with them like Enos could?

People who are bashing his abilities as an offensive coordinator are missing some context I believe.

None of us really know how this proposed new staff will pan out, but from what I have read in the media and on here, this could be CNS's best staff top to bottom. There has to be a fine line in hiring assistants, a balance between recruiting and teaching, youth versus experience. If this is the new Alabama staff then I am very encouraged.

I thought it was interesting listening to the sound bite of CNS’s remarks at the ACFA meeting. He made comments concerning “building relationships with players (and their families) not only as you recruit, but as they are your players, and in the years following their playing days”. They are your kids, your players the rest of their life.
Most telling to me was when he said he felt this was a “missing component” of last years team.
I think CNS is pleased with this staff in terms of balance between coaching/player development and recruiting. And I think he believes he has the type of guys on this staff now vested in building relationships with their players long term.

I'm not sure what these people are basing that on. I'm mostly ok with the new guys and shuffling (even as negative as some of this post is going to sound), and I really think Baker, Huff and Sunseri were good additions, but I think Flood was a flat out poor hire, Sark was iffy at best (he's probably a bit better than our last two OCs, but he's not elite and I'd be shocked if he gave our offense any real boost), and giving Golding the keys to the defense (if that's in fact what's happened) is just a jury's still out move, with some indication that he actually needs to improve substantially. The rest of the staff is pretty inoffensive, but also not especially inspiring, with Wiggins having the most potential, I think.

Probably the move I was most hoping for, besides bringing in a truly elite OC which I've really just given up hope on, was a strong OL coach hire. Beyond that, I would've liked to see us do something to address our ILB issues and to get a more proven hand at DC. Don't think we did any of that. On the plus side, I think we could see an even better pass rush with this staff, and that can really overcome a lot.

Sarkisian is an easy blame because we lost that championship game, and the Falcons fell from grace under his offensive leadership. The first you can 'explain' because we played a really good Clemson team with a rookie NFL starter at the helm, and we lost our great running game with an injury. The Falcons suffered many injuries on defense and damage to their psyche after that Super Bowl loss. The injuries on defense meant that their offense had less opportunities and they still had the #6 offense.

I am more than willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. I tend to believe that he has some big time redemption in him and will be very successful here.

I’m sure if we go back to the 2016 Clemson game thread that up to the Bo injury most folks were very high on Sark.

My main complaint with Sark from that game was his quickness to get the play called. I've mentioned it before, but Alabama averaged 3.6 seconds less per play against Clemson than it did in the previous 14 games. He was very quick to get the call to Jalen, which led to a quicker snap of the ball. One of Lane's greatest attributes was also a flaw at times; he would wait as long as he could to get the correct call based on the defense, which of course could lead to confusion as the play clock ticked down. From what I recall, Sark didn't really make changes once he gave Jalen a play.

If Alabama ran the same number of plays (66) against Clemson with its 26.6 seconds per play average, Alabama keeps the ball for an additional 4 minutes in the game. Defense isn't on the field as long, and Alabama probably wins.

I guess I could go back and look at the TOP before Bo's injury to see the impact - if any - that played into TOP, but I don't have the time right now.

I doubt Sark has a QB that he has to worry about managing that way as long as he is here.
