Bama Game Thread: [Part II] Official PostGame Thread Bama vs. AU...

So the video official stops the game in a live ball situation to put one second on the clock but doesn’t halt play at a crucial point to check whether Seth Wiliams fumbled the ball?

And don’t tell me that CBS’s prime time broadcast did not have the proper camera angle for a play that happened in the middle of the field.

I had questions about that as well. To me it look as though the Williams completed the catch, made a football move and was then stripped.

Assuming the refs had called the penalty, what would it have been?
PENALTY – [a-c] — Live-ball foul. 15 yards from the previous spot [S27]. Automatic first down for fouls by Team B if not in conflict with other rules. Flagrant offenders shall be disqualified [S47].

[h=3]ARTICLE 2. Unfair Tactics[/h]

  • No player shall conceal the ball in or beneath his clothing or equipment or substitute any other article for the ball.
  • No simulated replacements or substitutions may be used to confuse opponents. No tactic associated with substitutes or the substitution process may be used to confuse opponents (Rule 3-5-2-e). (A.R. 9-2-2:I-V)
  • No equipment may be used to confuse opponents (Rule 1-4-2-d).
Rule 3-5-2-e: When Team A sends in its substitutes, the officials will not allow the ball to be snapped until Team B has been given an opportunity to substitute. While in the process of substitution or simulated substitution, Team A is prohibited from rushing quickly to the line of scrimmage with the obvious attempt of creating a defensive disadvantage. If the ball is ready for play, the game officials will not permit the ball to be snapped until Team B has placed substitutes in position and replaced players have left the field of play. Team B must react promptly with its substitutes.

Wonder if anyone has submitted this to the front office...………..not that it will do any good

This makes me even more mad about how the game ended. We may or may not have scored with 1 minute left, but we should have at least had a chance. Don't the refs know the rule book? I think they did it on purpose... or else they are totally incompetent. I really think they did it so Auburn could win. Yes, we had other opportunities in the game and mistakes in the game, but still should have gotten the ball back one last time.

I actually mentioned this situation griping about Clemson in the early game thread. Ross snagged a touchdown with one foot in and it was basically instantaneous possession for a touchdown. It happens in the middle of the field and it’s a dropped pass.

I think he actually had possession of the ball and fumbled.

It was a little “weird” cbs didn’t have a camera for that angle, isn’t it?

When there are major mistakes made in officiating, then it should be discussed. At some point, perhaps there will be something done...

Someone needs to send this to Sports Announcers on TV and Radio in Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, and Montgomery and DEMAND a RESPONSE from the SEC office in B'ham. How about at least a MILLION Tide fans emailing the SEC office with this and questions regarding BOTH the 1 Second call and that last DREADFUL call. Aren't Referees supposed to Referee based on The RULES!!!!!!!

Hmmmmmm. Did anyone call Finebaum?

Well SEC Network has had Matt Austin, former official, out carrying the SEC office “water” on the end of the half field goal. Basically parroting what we know Steve Shaw and his minions will eventually do; “the officials did everything right”.

Well, Gary said it wasn't a catch so I guess that was good enough for everyone.

Now we know who IndyBison is. It is Matt Austin.

So, to clear my feeble mind, Auburn broke the highlighted part above by lining their punter up as a wide-out. Is that correct? That would fulfill the "confuse opponents" part of the rule, especially since they left their qb in the shotgun position.

I want Steve Shaw explain to me how the situation that happened at the end of the South Carolina - Auburn game in 2011 differs from what happened at the end of the half Saturday.

It was near identical. And in that circumstance the final one second was waived off as South Carolina was out of time outs. Shaw stated even with the first down stopping the clock temporarily, it wasn’t humanly possible to get another play off. As the play was being reviewed, the officials remained off the field. They radio down to them and said the game was over.

Exactly how it should have been handled Saturday.

I would like to hear the SEC officials respond to the question. It won't change the result of the game, but I would like to hear their response.

I'm just livid all over again.

In some kind of twist of irony, our sloppy play makes it easier to deal with because the refs didn't torpedo a great effort by our guys, but they still torpedoed us.

I'm sick of this crap. The rest of the conference should be sick of this crap, even if it seems we are the worst affected by it.

08, all I want is some honesty. When officials screw up, simply tell me. I may not like it, but I can accept it.
