Bama Game Thread: Official Post Game Thread Bama v. Michigan...

Having to "light a fire" under a team at halftime who'd already proclaimed they were coming into this game to "set the tone" for the 2020 season bothers me. It really does. After the embarrassing way our defense played all year you would think they would be knocking mouth pieces and jock straps off the opposing team. But, it appeared they weren't that motivated. The post game interview with Coach Saban sounded exactly like he had to chew their butts out for lack of effort. If that truly was the case that is simply pathetic.
My point was that I suspect it wasn't just players that got blasted. Either Golding drastically improved in the second half or Saban made some schematic changes and let Golding go from there...

Mac has two years left...

Living in the world of "Hypothetical"

So -- for sake of keeping a Bryce Young happy -- it might be better for Tua to come back -- and Mac to transfer....???

Or you have a situation where you have a Mac Jones as a Senior, Bryce Young as a Sophomore....sitting?

We've had that situation before -- and it's not fun.....

After watching the second half. Here's what I think this team needs to improve on to win a title next season and I can sum it up in two words- GET MEANER. Not "Leaner", but "MEANER". I'm becoming more and more convinced that our problems are more mental than physical.
You are going to get your wish.
With Brian Baker on the Defensive line and Sal Sunseri as linebacker coach the 'attitude' will be more apparent in 2020

The first half for Michigan was scripted -- and effective, outside of the red zone.....

The second half, not as much -- and we adjusted.....

Plus Harbaugh made it easier by ditching the second TE....

Yes, but Saban also said that this was possible because Michigan stopped playing their 2 TE sets, which they used for most of the 1st half. This allowed Alabama to establish an edge, which stopped the UM run game. Even Harbaugh talked about it after the game. You take what the defense gives you until they take it away. Rinse, repeat. UM didn't do that. They got cute.

Football is a pretty simple game in its most basic form. Blocking and tackling. In the first half UM played with 2 TEs and dominated the LOS. In the second half they played with 1 TE and tried to spread out Alabama. That helped Alabama get its best unit on their field, but UM did not adjust back to what Alabama does not defend well.

I would say that UM was outcoached by Alabama in the second half, but I really think that UM outcoached themselves. They made an adjustment that they didn't need to make. They failed to recognize their mistake (or were to stubborn to admit it).

Alabama still wins without that, but it probably would have been closer.
I am glad Josh Gattis was their OC instead of ours. He seems to talk too much.

One of my favorite plays was when their fastest player had the KO return -- and gave up instead of trying to out run Ruggs..... our guys would have tried to juke, or outrun the other team -- he just bailed and ran out of bounds

And kudos to Gattis for lightening up on the run against Linebacker-less U. in the second half in gratitude to Saban's having named him 'Bama's "shadow OC" as a catapult to his career.

I put this out there on another thread, so I apologize for the redundancy...

If Tua stays, Mac has two years to play anywhere immediately as a GT.

lia backs up Tua this year while BY learns and gets bigger.

Tua and family obviously move wherever he gets drafted, and Lia transfers to the best uni in the vicinity that needs a QB?

BY takes over in his Soph.(RSF) season...

I did not say that this is how I want this to go down...I’m just saying I think it may...

As a player I was personally more insulted when the opposing team played keep-away after going up a couple, potentially insurmountable, scores. I took that as “you guys aren’t even good enough to take seriously as a threat”. That was a slap in the face. I’d much rather you respect me enough to keep playing competitively even if a comeback is impossible. Players aren’t idiots. The Michigan defense knew in that moment on the field that Najee just whooped their butt 8 plays in a row or something whether he ran it into the EZ or not.

What Cameron McGrone doesn’t realize is that Saban gave him a chance to redeem himself on that drive and stop the TD. That was respect. But maybe I’m just overly competitive.
Thanks for your contributions and continued interests in your program Boss!! Roll Tide! I appreciate ex-players no matter what school he is from because it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to stick it out through the workouts and practice. And because of people like yourself...I can still look forward to games such as we have seen this season and have made my eyes sore today!! Go Bama!! 2020 HERE WE COME!!

The ball was past the LOS and there was a receiver in the area (though the receiver was about 5 yards away). Could have been called. I was glad that it wasn't.
But what is more clear....but who knows what is clear or unclear to a crazed wolverine?......is that Mac was already watching the ball inflight when the hit took place. End of story. The call WAS CORRECT.. It happened to us against that bunch from west georgia.

That's the way I saw it and, of course, they're desperate. Some seem to believe that the intentional grounding, had it been called, would somehow negate the dead ball PF...

They got caught thinking their talent was equal to Bama’s. What shows you the difference between good and great coaches is that you adjust when Plan A isn’t working. I thought Harbaugh would switch back after a couple of failed series but nope. He kept trying to figure out how to get that pesky square peg into that round hole.
That is when he started making faces, and I kept remembering Saban's personna during the pre-game interviews. It was like..."ohhhh man...can we please get this over with and get outta here? Aight?"

I lost my Dad on 10-13-05. He was a huge Bama fan. I sure hate he missed what is going on with the program since the arrival of CNS. He would have loved it. RTR Yes if you still have your dad, spend as much time as you can with him.
I hear ya Bro. You are so spot on. Your Dad would have been yelling for Najee pulling four white jersies because about 3 had gone down already during the ride. He probably would have told you about Johnny Davis dragging 9 Awbun guys into the endzone back in '77 and they STILL didn't put him on the turf. :ROFLMAO:

Would Tua even be physically ready to play by the game opener with USCw? I would think he'd need more healing and practice tune up time. But I'm no doctor. If Tua returns, I think he'll have to earn the starting position back, which might be difficult to do if he's not yet cleared to play in fall practice. Regardless, I think he goes in the draft. And Mac will be our starter. And as long as Mac plays well, I don't see Saban moving anyone ahead of him, including BY. Mac has spent most of his time in a back up roll behind Jalen and Tua. He's hung in there, when he could have transferred and started elsewhere. He's earned the starting position, and so far has played really great. It will be interesting to see what happens with all the quarterbacks. With Mac, Lia, Tyson, BY, and others, someone is bound to transfer. Tyson would be the logical one to transfer, but as the Bear's grandson, he may not want to. Lia might, if BY moves ahead of him on the depth chart. Regardless, we'll be in good shape at quarterback.

I think if Tua leaves for NFL, then Taulia transfers with the whole family moving to the city Tua plays in. That would leave Mac, Bryce, and Paul Tyson. Kristan Storey (not sure I spelled right but he's our recruit that played multiple positions including QB I think) would be an option in an emergency. Then, in 2021 Drake Maye would hopefully still come to Bama. If Tua returns, I doubt Drake wants to wait behind Tua, Mac/Bryce that long.
