2020 NFL Combine

If you don't think that speed matters - you are wrong. But the most important things for a receiver are their route running and their hands. Next would be their ability to adjust their routes to the ball in the air, and the ability to block downfield. Then come things like speed.

But ELITE speed makes the defense give you more room. If you have elite speed and great hands and run great routes, you make Julio money.

Cris Carter made a comment last night about the 40 times. He pretty much said most of the WR with Gold jackets weren't at the top of the list for 40 times. I agree with that, but TO and Moss are two that come to mind who ran exceptional 40s. Heck TO ran a 4.43 at the age of 44.

And; most of the guys in the HOF have been out of the league a long time. It ain't the same game now.

Found this on another site. I didn't check the list for reliability so if it's wrong I apologize.

List of the fastest 40 yard dash times since 2003

2017 4.22 John Ross
2005 4.26 Jerome Mathis
2013 4.27 Marquise Goodwin
2003 4.27 Tyrone Calico
2020 4.27 Henry Ruggs
2015 4.28 JJ Nelson
2010 4.28 Jacoby Ford
2009 4.30 Darrius Heyward-Bey

The 40 is arguably the most overrated/hyped statistic at the combine, period. How many positions require a player to run uncontested in a straight line for 40 yards?

None of those, with the exception of Ross (and Ruggs obviously), jump off the page as game-changers in the NFL, and Ross mainly benefited the last two seasons from AJ Green being hurt.

Speed counts but shouldn't be as relied upon in the evaluation process as it has been at the combine then subsequently come draft day. A lot of bad draft picks due to teams getting enamored with speed.

Route running matters more than speed. Possession receivers are just as important as anyone else on offense but speed helps!

I don't believe another year would have mattered; he is who he is. Maybe a backup at next level. He is not AJ; and he has not been able to break threw

Yeah, but this year's draft is very top heave for QBs, and he is not a top QB in this club.

He would have had it better in the draft next year
...or he could have regressed more, not gotten drafted at all, not collected any signing bonus and joined fellow UGA legend in his own mind A-aron M-U-R-R-A-Y in the arena league...that's still a thing right??? 🤷‍♂️

Possible...………….but with fewer QBs next year it might have been to his advantage. In any case, he's down the list this year. Jalen Hurts looked much better than Fromm
