I cant address what is a persons motivation but as far as we know it did begin in China and their lack of action and openness/truthfulness about it contributed greatly to its spread. Calling it Chinese or Wuhan is the result. They own it now. At this point however there are much more important things to worry about.

The motivation was to make Trump look good, and the media look petty for taking issue with Trump calling it the "Chinese Virus". It was used for Trump to go out on a high note in a press conference in which he got blasted again. Had he just stopped at "No I don't think its racist" then he would be fine, but he went on a rant In calling CNN, NBC, WSJ, and WaPo fake news afterwards

Fed drops the rates, Trump gives billions to the banks, the banks raise mortgage rates.

Trump's buddies get richer - again.

The idea is to loosen up lending but the banks are raising rates and blaming it on uncertainty. No crap. That's why they gave you the money.

Told you guys this was a bad idea. Money wasted.

They have closed their 20K "wet markets," and, after what they've been through and given the muscle of their government, they'll stay closed. As I posted elsewhere, the markets are run by organized crime, since they depend on illegal poaching and smuggling, so they've moved out of China and to adjacent SE Asian countries. They are also spread across Africa. A novel virus like this could start in any single one where live wild animals are brought into contact with one another and humans...

GONNA VENT HERE. I have lived through Dwight Eisenhower , John Keneddy, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Obama. In my lifetime have I never seen or heard of a President being scrutinized over every word he speaks, humiliated by the public to the point of wanting to hurt someone, slandered, ridiculed, insulted, and lied to. I have never heard their wives or children threatened, insulted, and humiliated.
I am truly ashamed of the people of this country. I am ashamed of the ruthless, hating, cruel Trump haters who have no morals, and news reporters who feel they have the right to purposely lie and do the things they are doing. Every other President, after they were elected and took the oath of office, was left alone. They weren’t on the news 24/7 being dissected by every word out of their mouth, ALWAYS BEING PRESSURED to do this, or that, and never being given the support to do the important work that needs to be done. ENOUGH is ENOUGH is ENOUGH!! LEAVE THE MAN ALONE AND LET HIM DO HIS JOB, FOR GOD’S SAKE! If you agree, copy and paste this to your timeline and put your name under the last name:

I have had three friends post this on Facebook. I mostly just laugh at the sheer ignorance of the hard core Trumpies’ rants, but this really made my blood boil.

I wanted to reply “Yes, all those posts claiming Trump was born in Germany or joked about his wife being a man were really out of line. Or accusations of him and his wife murdering people.”

One of them is the guy I have mentioned who is always sharing crap that slanders Obama. How people can post that with a straight face is beyond me.

I've lived through all of them too. The difference is that NONE of them were as incompetent, unfit and a pathological liar like Trump is. He deserves nearly all the criticism that he gets.
 
Every president (including Trump) gets criticism that is sometimes unfair and over-the-top from the other side.

But I never saw stuff that was just downright cruel and hateful as I did with Obama. Granted, there wasn’t social media as widespread as it is now prior to the Obama era so maybe it was out there before now.

But I have a fair share of liberal Facebook friends and I don’t see them constantly posting stuff about Melania being a lesbian porn model or Trump speculating about dating Ivanka if she wasn’t his daughter. (Imagine if Obama said he’d date Sasha). Or even posting stuff that isn’t actually true.

My buddy is already starting in on Biden. He shared two pages the other day suggesting he is a child molester. They were pictures of him comforting his grandkids at Beau’s funeral.

The problem with many "true believers" is that they see the other side not as different or wrong, but as "evil" and worthy of destruction. The ends justify the means...accuse them of as many evils as you can...they are evil and deserve it. I see this coming more from the conservative/fundamentalist side than I do from the liberal side...but it can and does fit both.

I had someone post the other day a meme that said people who say Trump isn’t their president shouldn’t get one of the checks Trump will be sending out. I replied that people who go on anti-socialism rants shouldn’t get one either.

Today I saw her post the same meme (with all previous comments deleted) saying it was intended to be lighthearted but some people got triggered and added “typical”.

Not sure how making the exact same comment from the other side is being triggered, but whatever.

that's how the trump supporters were pushing "civility" immediately after the election. gaslighting and then expecting a pat on the back

If you look back at the civility thread you will notice a lot of posters that ran away from NS or got a long vacation afterwards. Im still amazed of how few of the folks from the Obama years are here. But that might be the hat thread of NS at how wild it got.
