News Article: Good luck dealing with a pandemic, depending on this administration...

I made the mistake of saying 6' wasn't enough on a local neighborhood group and also all should be wearing masks outside, per CDC. I got roundly attacked. A couple of the nurses were attackers and got so far out of line they got kicked out of the group. People don't want to hear it...
What really bothers me is how will I ever get to go back to work. There is no controlling the aerosol water spray that must be used with a high speed dental handpiece. The aerosol cloud is like a sneeze times ten. I can see dentists and their staffs not only getting the disease but spreading it. Yet people are going to have to have dental care. We are hearing about the possibility of negative pressure rooms, a second high volume suction in addition to the one the assistant holds, and of course the usual PPE. I'm trying to learn as much as I possibly can, but no one really knows yet.

At some point, dentists are going to have to go back to work.

It would be a pain, but it would work - fresh air masks like chemical plant workers use.

Trump's signature to be on stimulus checks, delaying mailing process: report

pitiful

Since the president is not actually authorized to sign checks from the U.S. Treasury, Trump's signature will appear in the "memo" space on the bottom left, across from the authorized signature of a nonpartisan Bureau of the Fiscal Service official.

We may all look like Tennessee fans if dentists cannot find a solution soon.

April 14 (GMT)
  • 26945 new cases and 2407 new deaths in the United States

    New York City
today has reported 3,778 additional deaths that have occurred since March 11 and have been classified as "probable," defined as follows: “decedent [...] had no known positive laboratory test for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) but the death certificate lists as a cause of death “COVID-19” or an equivalent" [source]. We will add these to the New York State total as soon as it is determined whether the historical distribution can be obtained

That is nearly 4,000 that are not added to the total yet.

The WHO made several missteps but I'm not sure this is the answer. It's certainly deflection from his own missteps.

Can he do this simply on his own decision? Doesn’t congress determine funding? Where are the checks and balances to address this guys irrational choices? Sure, the WHO has some responsibility but I really don’t think cutting funding in the middle of this event is a wise move. Chances are he backs off of this in a few days just so he can say what a great person he is.

"When somebody is the President of the United States the authority is total."

Susan Collins is still sure he learned his lesson.

Its patently apparent that Trump, his advisors, legislative enablers, and out of touch constituents have no idea nor desire to defend and protect this country. If you didnt know better you would think Trump and his supporters want to roll society back to the 1850s where people spend their day chopping wood, fighting off attacks from other tribes, digging graves for loved ones who died of typhoid fever, the calvary requisitioning their horses and livestock, and checking the time waiting for the train to come through.

Besides a strong military, which I question we have now given the experiences talent being run out of the military, it takes a valuable currency, education of it's people, a domestic and stable food supply, and responsive healthcare system to defend and protect the country. Show me a country that is underperforming in any one of these areas and you have a country with significant economic problems.

It's great that we have gotten on this thread to fume, debate, analyze, support and criticize the response, or lack thereof, to this virus. But it doesn't mean a damn thing if you dont re-engage in your civic duty to be sensible in who you vote for, hold the current leaders accountable, and above all vote and vote often.

And here is a message of warning for those on here who support Trump to any degree. It's a right we have to get in here and debate this in the form of free speech. But if we continue on the path we are on there will be a day where we wont be debating for or against this response. You see, with autocrats like Trump, everything is a sliding scale for them. He will or someone of his ilk following will turn on his supporters to further consolidate his own power. Dictatorships are not taken by coup anymore. They use a constituency to get into power then turn on them. And it's already happening. Eventually he will start coming for your guns and your religion too because he will perceive both as a remaining threat to his absolute power.

About 15-20 years ago, I read all the Left Behind series which was an attempt give a modern interpretation of what the Tribulation would be like and I cant get it out of my head of what I read then as to how it parallels to what we are seeing now in how Trump communicates and moves the lines of power with no one willing to stand against him. As Christians its appropriate to have a level of distrust in government but that distrust should be applied equally to either party in power. At the end of the day it will always be true that absolute power absolutely corrupts.

“No one saw this coming”: bs.
I saw it coming back in January, early February at the latest. Didn’t post it here, but told my family and coworkers that anyone who thought this was going to be no big deal was either stupid or not paying attention. Was hoping I was wrong and being alarmist. I wasn’t. A lot of people saw this coming.

I’ll respond more thoroughly to this tomorrow, when I have better access to the data I’ve been tracking, but all indications are that we are certainly approaching a plateau. Remember: deaths lag cases by 10 to 15 days. And US cases have plateaued, barring a new explosive hot spot a la New York.

I'll say this and leave it alone - if Trump doesn't want a literal armed revolution, he should be very careful at this point.

As a conservative libertarian (read: anti-authoritarian), I’ll second this. And it would be lead by an odd bedfellows coalition that includes the states’ rights crowd. Contrary to many pre/mis-conceptions, all conservatives aren’t Trumpies.
