I have no problem understanding the projections. I didn’t realize Mardi Gras lasted until the end of March. Can’t say I pay it much attention when it ends/starts, etc.Thought it ended much earlier.
I think you are correct. However, the interval in which the virus has been active keeps being pushed back...

it is clear that the NIH was motivated by conspiracy theories that allege—without evidence—that the virus was somehow released by Chinese researchers in Wuhan, the central Chinese city where the pandemic began.
I cannot imagine stopping funding over internet rumors and conspiracy theories but I'll still not be surprised if we eventually find out this started in a lab, not from bat soup or a pangolin.

Not a conspiracy theory, just an absolute and complete lack of trust of the chinese government.

It also shows a certain lack of trust in science (which I share), because it is science telling us that this comes from nature, not just China. I don't trust China at all, but I trust science (mostly).

My only doubt in the science is that it may be tainted by politics.

It just hit me this AM that Trump and crew are handling COVID-19 like a scandal: deny it, say that maybe it's happening but isn't that bad, so on and so forth then finally, it's happening and it's bad but it doesn't matter.

Also woke up wondering how the dry cough in COVID-19 is related to ACE inhibitor induced dry cough and if that might offer a clue to us somehow. Too bad we don't fully understand the mechanism behind that one. We do know ACEi's cause a proinflammatory state in some with kinens and prostaglandin and substance P and others and that protussive substances are produced in some people taking these, but not others. If we understood that mechanism better would we understand COVID-1 better?
I had assumed that it was a side effect of the virus co-opting the mucous cells of the throat and turning them into virus factories...

This will never happen. People may wake up but, they won't do a thing about it. The companies doing the outsourcing do it for higher profit margins. Those companies will never accept lower profits which means higher prices for stuff made here. Americans will refuse to pay higher prices because, that's what we do. Why do you think Walmart is so popular? You have to convivence people to pay more for everyday items or convince the big companies to accept lower returns. Unlikely on both counts.
I agree with you that is unlikely to happen which is why I think we continue our global slide into mediocrity and continue to mortgage our future for something cheap today.

There is this whole renin-angiotensin-aldosterone mechanism that seems to be at play. I was mainly referring to the early dry cough. Of course a sore throat could cause a cough as well. Someone much smarter than I is going to unlock some of the mysteries of this virus.

It appears Trump is going to end the work of the WH virus task force. The responsibility will be passed down to FEMA and other local offices to manage. While the message this sends is absolutely wrong, there is probably only upside to having a more locally driven response. Maybe competent people will step up and take charge. I'll take my chances with practically anyone over Kushner.

i'm of two minds here

one, we may actually see some results which would be a great change from now

but two, with you it sends a message that this is over when it clearly isn't

It is the later which concerns me. Too many don't see trump for the turd that he is.

i think the second one is going to be one of the big problems we face in georgia after kemp's monumental idiocy the past two weeks. and he's learning from his daddy well, doubling down in the face of criticism

i certainly hope that we will still have access to the opinions of the doctors that are currently on the scene nationally. i wonder if this is a way to, if not silence them, keep them out of the daily news etc. i know thqt it is about more than that but i still wonder.

I'm enough of a cynic (remember I gave this thread its title), that it seems to me to be an obvious "see no evil" tactic. Is Kushner still going to be behind the scenes confiscating state and local PPE and putting it "our stockpile?" What was all that about, anyway? I don't think you'll hear from Fauci again. He'll be under a gag order, if not an outright NDA...

Those of you who are old enough to remember Nikita Khrushchev what he said may be on the way to happening with the buffoon in the WH and COVID-19 pandemic.
