Schiano would probably be an improvement to what they have had since 2009.
Yep. I don't think either of them could have gotten Rutgers ranked and to a bowl game.

I have a feeling they'll end up with Schiavone, or a similar coach, i.e. someone we didn't see coming. At all.

"I am humbled and honored to be part of the best college football program in the country," said Cristobal. "The tremendous commitment from the University and our administration to our student-athletes, coaches, and support staff is unmatched and has been unwavering since day one. I am grateful to President Schill and Rob Mullens for all of their support and for entrusting our staff with the future of Oregon Football. We are just getting started, and I am fired up to relentlessly work and build upon the success so far. We are privileged to call Oregon home, and we love the sense of family and community here at Oregon. We will continue to work tirelessly to elevate the Oregon football program to the next level, and we can't wait to see the best fans in the nation back in Autzen Stadium next fall. Go Ducks!"
Mario said what needed to be said. That was a Money speech.

Schiano, if true, would be auburn's best coaching hire since Pat Dye. Interesting to see if auburn pulls a Tennessee with regard to its fans reaction to Schiano. IIRC, when Rutgers hired Schiano this last time he received a huge salary, got commitments for facilities and stadium upgrades and substantial funding for his assistant coaches.

His buyout after Dec. 1 2020 shrank to $6,000,000 from $8m. That’s a lot less than some of those bad Sexton hires if I’m not mistaken.

Trying to force Cristobal to keep Gus's sloppy leftovers is ridiculous. You got to let the new coach have control over the program otherwise they will be right back in this same spot.

We all know what Alabama went through after Bryant, and even more so after Stallings. We kept trying to hire coaches and force them into the "Alabama mold". Mal Moore finally had enough and went after Saban and gave him the free reigns to rebuild the mold from the ground up. The school, and more importantly, the boosters, got out of the programs way. If Auburn really wants to get serious then they need to learn this lesson fast.

Not that I really care because watching the roller coaster in Lee county is a lot of fun.

From the outside, it seems one of the primary poisons in Auburn's well is boosters. I haven't seen any team play well for long with Boosters meddling in the program.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.
His Grandad was our head coach in high school. His dad Patrick ran balls in and out for us as a kid along side Coach Jeremy Pruitt as his dad was one of our assistants. The guy writing this has probably never played a down at QB. I know one thing, Nix plays hard.
He's a gamer, yeah.

Just about all of his problems stem from lack of effective coaching and poor OL recruiting and injuries there. We lost 3 starting linemen as the season progressed. Kid had to flee for his life 4 out of every 5 times he dropped back to throw as the season wore on. Is it any wonder he'd bail out frequently even on the rare occasion a pocket did form? He's not afraid to get hit. Anyone that has seen him run the ball would know that.

Hopefully our next coach can, you know, coach him and put a functional offensive line in front of him for a change.

They can thank their agents for that, people like Jimmy Sexton are the ones who ensure $21MM nest eggs like these are worked into their contracts. It allows Gus and Kristi time to weigh their options without feeling rushed. ;)
Just to highlight the absurdity of these golden parachute payouts:

If you took $21,000,000 and gave each of the 85 scholarship football players $10,000 per year, you you have a $10,000 stipend/scholarship for every player for the next 25 years.

Most Auburn fans that I talk to are Hugh Freeze or bust( unless it’s Bob Stoops), and they are absolutely disgusted with the botched coaching search. They don’t won’t Napier, and they don’t want someone that Tennessee passed over. . IIRC the Tennessee fan base absolutely rioted in the streets when Schiano‘s name was trial ballooned during their last coaching search. The Auburn base may do the same thing.

I love it. :)

One of the best things Moore - and others - did was having a number of closed-door meetings with some prominent people to explain how things were going to change behind the scenes. We may have had to rename a few buildings on campus and find a few new suite owners and such but we either wouldn't have been able to hire Saban or at least not have been able to keep him very long had those things not happened.

It really looks like the Barn has neither the foresight, the fortitude, nor even the basic desire to excise the rotting members of its household from its house - and the roof is just going to continue caving in on them until they do. They'll patch it and have a good season or two here and there - and even a Championship or two - every decade or so but the modus operandi is inconsistent, at best.

Or, as we like to say:

S.N.A.S.S.
