I am thankful for the win in such a hostile environment.Bryce did well considering the circumstances. Offense and defense did not look that great, but did just enough when they needed to. Really glad our punter and Reichard did a good job... our field goal was the difference in the game when we made ours and they missed their extra point and 2 pt conversion. If Bama does make it to Atlanta, I am not sure yet who I'd rather them play b/w UGA and Florida. Those 2 teams will battle for the East winner.

As of right now, not many top contenders look that great, including Bama. Every team has issues. Even though Bama has lots of issues, I think they can get better. It is hard to tell if the issues are coaching, scheme, fundamentals, play calling, intensity, or other things. I am just spoiled from the last few years, especially last year (offense and defense). If things aren't fixed quickly, Bama could lose 1-2 or more regular season games. Hopefully the defense will be able to stop the run better against Ole Miss, Texas AM, Arkansas, and Auburn. And, the team penalties need to decrease. Remember that Ole Miss has a bye week next week and already looks really good.

This is going to be a wild year in football for many teams. Glad Bama is still undefeated so far! I am definitely going to need more Tums, Pepto, and Essential Oils on game days! lol RTR

Right now, everyone is overreacting to the game. We went through this with Ole miss last year and we played better. This game is no different.
Well that tends to happen here. One week the board believes “we are the greatest team ever” then the next “we are going to lose 3-4 games”.

The eeyore brigade has been waiting for a game like this since the last Florida game, and of course they were going to let us have it. But really this was a game that should have been a blowout that turned into a nail bitter. The game really changed when they forced us to 3 straight 3 and outs after 3 straight scores. If we score on any one of those drives the game would have been over in the first half. But it is what it is.

The team is young (no pun intended). I wouldn’t read as much in the defense as I would the offense. Sure we could get lit up by Ole Miss in a couple of weeks, but it’s expected. This defense is still a very good defense. Our offense’s inability to run is by far the most troubling issue at the moment.

It’s one game. We won and that is good enough at the moment.

I am not going to dwell on specifics, except to say we got beat everywhere except the scoreboard, This is not a NC team, but can still will 12+ games.
Based on what I've seen so far, I would be surprised if any team can go undefeated this year. There are some good teams, but I haven't seen any great ones emerge yet. Of course, it is early, and teams have a lot of opportunity to improve.

Okay, after some time away from the game to think about it, I'm less concerned about the team.

What we saw in the first quarter is what we've seen many times under Saban - total dominance of the opposition due to Bama's superior talent and coaching. What we saw in subsequent quarters was a dogfight because the Tide let its guard down and lost intensity. Once you lose intensity (within a game) it's nearly impossible to regain it - we've seen this many times under Saban.

CNS's truly great teams either kept the intensity level high until the game was 'over' (either the score is insurmountable later in the game or time expires) or they found a way to hold on when the intensity was lost due to seemingly overwhelming leads. The former was what we generally saw in 2020, the latter was what we saw yesterday.

Generally speaking, Saban's great teams that claw out a win like we saw yesterday learn from it and begin keeping the pedal down until the game is over. I'm hoping that this team is a great one - they have all the parts to be great - and will become more like the 2020 squad.

Time will tell, but I remain hopeful and excited.

ROLL TIDE!

Im the opposite. Offensive play calling after the 3rd series was horrendous. If we go up 28-3 Florida would have folded and we aren’t complaining about anything right now.
Offensive execution was as well. Hopefully both O'Brien and the team will learn to keep the intensity levels high until the game is over.

Honestly I think many should just move on and say “I’m glad it’s over, and let’s trust CNS to correct what is needed”. I tend to look at the game that was happening and not the game it ended up being. If Florida went down 28-3 then it’s highly unlikely that they are running the ball like they did, and eating clock.

3 games through we are 3-0. There have been very few teams in the country that have been as impressive as us through 3 if any. Onto USM and leave this one in the rear view mirror.

lol make up all the excuses for your favorites and damn the ones you hated. It still doesn’t change that Kirby absolutely sucked from 2013-2015. He still has a problem with dynamic quarterbacks to this day.
To be fair, I never liked Kirby at all. Pruitt was my guy. Kirby is light years ahead of Golding though.

All of this is true. I’m still concerned about the lack of consistency with our OL, and the fact that no one could tackle today. I wish we had run the ball when we were up 21-3. If we scored there, the crowd becomes a non-factor.

Pruitt probably had the best tenure but in many ways his defenses at Tennessee give me pause. Because he inherited two great defenses and we are now seeing his players these past few years. But it’s whatever. I did like that he was a bit more aggressive than Kirby.

As for Kirby…. The last few years his best friends were Nuss and Kiffin. If we lost they would get all of the blame if we win we would hear all the great things about the offense. The single most embarrassing moment defensively is seeing Nick Marshall throw 400 on us. But no one remembers it because Kiffin saved his ass.

But the OL looked pretty good in the first quarter - especially in a hostile environment.

If Bama had played all four quarter like they did the first, CFB would be handing them the trophy already.

Totally agree. I’m just trying to figure out if the first quarter where we dominated is the norm, or if the final three quarters where we GOT dominated is the norm.

True.......: and I expect that Saban is already working on getting it fixed. Bama will get there....... work in progress

Again, look at intensity - both from the players and (some of) the staff. I think the team fell into the classic trap of early domination and thinking they could go through the motions and win easily. UF had other plans.

I can’t agree more. That was when you break the Florida will. The play calling in those three key series by O’Brien was pathetic. One thing Sark understood; offensive performance is very much dependent on rhythm and pace. That play calling pulled an offense “in sync” right out of it.
Additionally, Bryce has to be a threat to pull it and run in the RPO game. Yes we need to protect him and he has to be smart. The UF defense knew Bryce wouldn’t run it.

Question because I know you were there: the last series on third down when we are running out the clock, we ran the ball to left. It appeared to me the entire Florida defense crashed that direction and there was no one left on the Florida back side. They had done it on the previous plays.

To me I’m sitting there thinking, “fake it to back and boot Bryce right and maybe he picks up the first down”. If not the play probably runs a few more seconds off the clock by running wide.

Am I completely wrong about that?

I hope that’s the case. I just don’t like to see our defense get shredded by mediocre offenses. Emory Jones is trash, man…

Something to keep in mind, why are we assuming that Florida will "just keep getting better" and Alabama won't improve? Make no mistake, Florida put more preparation and energy into this game than will any other game left on their regular-season schedule. We TOOK THEIR BEST SHOT STRAIGHT TO THE JAW, flinched, possibly stumbled a bit but never hit the ground. We won.

These are college, amateur athletes on BOTH sides of the coin here, so now Mullen and co are going to have to keep their players mentally and emotionally engaged after an emotionally filled loss just as Saban is going to have to keep his guys improving after an emotional filled win.

I'd rather be Alabama this Sunday morning, than Florida. JMO...

There is a military equation that applies very much to football.

Power of Resistance = Means x Will

When you play a team such as Florida (and others we will face in coming weeks) with talent comparable to ours (Means) when you get the chance to finish them (Will) you must do it. Some of that falls to players executing, but most of it falls to leadership (coaches).

Two things: we need an Alpha dog on that offensive line. Dickerson filled that role last year. Based on experience you would expect Owens or Neal to take that position. However being the “Alpha” is as much about personality as it is performance/experience. I don’t know if that fits for either. Dalcourt? Truthfully there times yesterday I thought Early (#6) was “in his head” winning the mental side as much as the physical side. Get the oline right goes a long way toward curing ills in the run game.
I was texting with another Bama fan in the first quarter and said “the oline is playing well, picking up blitzes, etc.. This is what we need”. Then they disappeared.

Second: the old fashion “option” offense dealt us fits. You can bet it will be part of most every game plan we see going forward, especially those with an athletic quarterback.
