How long until JPW..

if he doesnt bring them down and the receivers continue to have to fully extend in the middle of the field we will be playing walk ons as starters before the second half of the season

He underthrew what like two passes all night? Just because he doesn't throw the ball as hard as Brodie doesn't mean it's not necessarily a good thing. He'll be just fine, and so will the receivers.

cheif im not talking underthrows...im talking overthrows over the middle...a head-hunting safetys best friend.

take off your crimson glasses

but if we are gonna talk underthrows....all his deep balls except the one that went out of bounds were underthrows

Overthrows over the middle??? Maybe I'm just having a hard time remembering, but I don't recall problems like that. Anyone else care to enlighten me? I think most will agree with me in saying that JPW had a good game, especially considering the fact it was his first start. And since you seem to be the only person on this entire board who is mentioning a problem with overthrows, I'll take it you're just nitpicking. If you want to see overthrows, throw in some of the tapes from last year. As far as taking off my crimson glasses....well I'll just not comment on that.

*Laughing* I think he needs to work on his touch as well. He threw several behind the reciever and it is remarkable tha they were caught...in traffic. The recievers played a hullva game and JPW did pretty well for his first start imo. Hopefully he can work on his touch and will do better in time.

:)

Bingo! Give the man a ceegar! 253 yds in your debut game as a starter ain't chump change. We want him to be rock solid going into Fayetville. He needs to get worked out quite a bit in the games before then.

Underthrow, overthrow. It's his first college start folks. Give him a chance. Even Leinert, Young, and others didn't always throw perfect strikes to their receivers. It's a team a game and if the throw is not perfect, it's the receiver's job to give it all he's got to make the catch. On the flip side, it's the QB's responsibility to give the receiver a chance to catch the pass. JPW did that 16 out of 29 times last night. He's still a work in progress right now. No he didn't throw every pass picture perfect, but he didn't throw any INT's either.

It would be interesting to see how many BAMA QBs, if any, have passed for 253 yards in their first start.

IM old enough to remember a game where the opponent stacked the line, dared us to throw, and we couldn't complete 1 pass. Not 1. We lost.
JPW did a better job than I can remember with any 1st start. His arm is not as strong as some but he throws the ball well and has better pocket presence than many senior QB's. He is a strength for our team.

:BigA:

His arm is very strong. I don't know where this weak arm stuff is coming from. His arm is strong. I would not be surprised if it was the strongest amongst the quarterbacks that are down there right now. He's a good quarterback with a really good arm.

Brodie Croyle threw for 285 yards in his first start at Arkansas in 2002.:)

I don't say that to slam JPW at all. I think JPW played very well considering it was his first start and really his first significant action in college football. I think when you look at it in that context he was outstanding.

Yes, JPW has a few things to work on , but he will only get better as he gains more experience.

I've said this several times before, JPW is going to be one of the best QBs Alabama has ever had.

I thought he looked good for a rook. He did almost get a few receivers killed on high throws. One thing i noticed is the receivers caught the ball much better yesterday than almost any game last year. Could be due to JPW not throwing as hard as Brodie did. I feel very good about JPW long term.

gets a receiver killed with those rainmakers he is throwing up?

How many Old Milwaukies did you throw back before 6 o'clock yesterday? Wilson will end up being one of the top 2 Qb's we've had in the past 25 years. Anyone who was dissapointed with his performance on Saturday is crazy.

these responses are almost as annoying has the big hawaiian blowing into the seashell that i had to sit beside yesterday.

the stats look good. to say that alot of his passes were NOT to high in dangerous places is crazy

his floaters will be INTs against conference secondaries

the good stats are because the WRs made great adjustments on the ball.

his passes to the TEs were crisp and on target. i will give him that

im not here to bash just here to state the facts and im not a fly by night fan or student of the game

Why don't you go ahead and list which passes over the middle he overthrew that almost killed his receivers. I challenge you to come up with three.
