COVID-19 Vaccines and Related Issues Part XIII

Mrs. Basket Case and I are going on a long flight in late September, and the pharmacy said it's looking iffy as to whether the newest vaccine will be available before then.

I got the bivalent when it first came out last September, so it's been almost a year for me. I've decided to go ahead and get a boost of that in the next few days. Not ideal, but likely the best I can do before getting on a long ride in a germ tube.

I do tend to react to the vaccine, so I'll schedule it for a time when the following day's schedule is empty.

Late add: Just read an article in Forbes that a lot of doctors are saying to hold off until the new vaccine is available, probably in October. Has to do with which vaccines protect best against which variants, and the existing bivalent isn't all that effective against the strain currently circulating in the US. Trouble is, that's too late for my trip.

Running counter to that is we're going to Europe, where the recently-circulating variant is a descendant of Omicron....which is what the current bivalent is designed to protect against. So I'm back to getting the bivalent some time in the next few days.

one of my coworkers just told me that a player on her son's football team has covid and the coaches had him stay through warm-ups, on the team bus, and the game. What the hell is wrong with people?
Around here (west TN) the attitude has shifted completely on Covid - it's essentially being treated like the flu or cold by basically everyone.

Most people are overgrown 2-year-olds who want what they want and will make up any excuse to get what they want. They're maniacs. These folks will bring back polio.
there is an uptick of leprosy in florida …

Yes, please don't move to Florida there is leprosy. It's a lawless swamp down here ruled by mutant alligators stay out!!!!!

Based on my child's progression, tomorrow is not going to be fun. Fortunately, we're already stocked up on Mucinex and bourbon.
I hate being right all the time. ;)

Fever's bouncing around 100, and the coughing has commenced. Will probably have to break out the bourbon if I'm gonna get any sleep.

Same where I am.
And flu typicaly kills tens of thousands every year. As a population, our right to live freely and spread illnesses seems to be more important than our individual right to remain healthy, which coincidentally seems to be no different than our gun culture's right to bear arms vs. more and more innocent folks getting shot and/or killed. It seems to be related in the end to our victim blaming culture. However, the good news is we are at least consistent.

So...what's the solution, other than manage as best we can?

It's called "muh freedumbs" for a reason...

They didn't when the infection rate was much higher than today...
Alex Jones stirred the pot the past week with some “shocking” revelation about lockdowns returning “soon”. And of course, his “inside guy” at the NCAA told him that there would be a“bombshell announcement“ regarding the 2023 season forthcoming. Oh and of course, the NFL too. It was good for some comic relief anyway 😂
