This thread reminded me of this thread, Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please) It was discussion about Tua and Jalen.. and how bad Jalen was performing.. Many of you didn't like the idea of rotating QBs that year... and many wished Mac Jones to get some starts in. Many of you wished stated Jalen stared down his receivers and always ran too much. Look what happened: Tua and Jalen is in NFL.. Mac is in NFL. Everything is going to work itself out for Jalen Milroe and Simpson.

I believe he flipped to Bama after Tebow chose UF and Shula offered him in Tebow's absence.
I'd say it worked out for both...especially if Tebow going to UF had any influence at all in Shula leaving to make way for CNS!
You really answered your own question - why are people so down on Milroe? it's because he hasn't yet shown several things he should be able to do to be an effective QB. The same was true of Hurts - it was very true that he was pretty much a one read and run QB for his first two years. Milroe shows that same tendency right now, but Milroe, right now, is not even close to where Hurts was, as a true freshmen, as far as timing, anticipation, and honestly just passing consistency.
What happened was Hurts got benched for someone who'd make all the reads and make sure the WRs were all involved. In year three for Hurts, once Tua got the start, he started forcing himself to progress in making all the reads and be more patient - he had to or he would not play anything more than mop-up. Sometimes a hard situation like losing a starting spot is a great way to get motivated to get better in certain areas and Hurts certainly did that - something that should earn him a lot of respect because not everyone has the type of character to react the right way like he did. We are now at the beginning of year three for Milroe, and really we are not seeing much at all yet.
I think we all want to give him a bit of grace cause I don't know that he got great QB coaching his first two years, but really we'd expect more from a 3rd year guy than we are seeing now. that said, I'll be just as happy for him if he turns the corner and starts progressing in his developmental areas as I was happy for Hurts when it became obvious he was making significant strides.
The good thing is regardless of what any of us think Milroe is going to get his shot to prove everyone wrong.
And if the Jalen Hurts story shows anything it's that most people are willing to admit when they're wrong in these situations. Or change their opinion given evidence to the contrary
Excited to see what happens this season at QB. And I definitely hope Milroe has improved enough as a passer because his rushing ability would be huge for our chances at a championship
Texas will be watching Bama Saturday for sure. But they may not learn much, except Bama has 3 good quarterbacks, a top notch run game, and a stout defense.
With Milroe it's hard to know how he is progressing because his biggest problem is ball security and we learn nothing about that in training camp. That's why there are so many skeptics.
Learning to hold the ball with 2 hands in the pocket is something he's worked hard on.
In all fairness, Jalen didn't fully blossom into an NFL quality passer until he transferred to OK.

His passing improved during that season, but he wasn't nearly the quality passer that he was at OK.
The impact that Lincoln Riley had on him is undeniable.
And as mentioned above, he improves every season...even in the NFL.
He's the consummate professional and a fantastic teammate.
you and all the media give Riley way too much credit for Jalen's improvement. Getting bench might have been the best thing that happened to him.

Jalen Hurts improved each and every year he played football out of high school up to and including the run to the SB. IIRC he employed one of the nation's most notable QB Gurus before he left Bama to go play for Riley. He improved because he PUT IN THE WORK. Milroe could do the same. We just don't know at this point, but I expect it to be figured out before SEC play begins.
I believe Milroe will be the starter and he is very athletic no one will deny that, the thing is he will make 5-6 plays a game and you say WOW how he do that, then again he'll make 3 plays where you say " what are you doing" it all depends in the game and field position where he makes those plays, hopefully he doesn't but he probably will because he's learning
It's going to be different watching a ball of anxiousness panicking after the first read isn't open vs someone with ice water running through their veins going through their progressions. We were spoiled with a long run of top sec qbs, so this year we're back down to earth with our QB. We'll just have to be otherwordly with a few other positions to pick up the slack. I will gladly eat a plate of crow if I am wrong about the QB being a weak spot.
