Bama Game Thread: Official Postgame Thread - Bama vs. UTw...

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

I was concerned that Rees would bring ND's offensive play calling with him and he did.

Texas did to Bama what Bama has done to teams for years - capitalize on mistakes and just beat you when it counts.

The D line couldn't penetrate.

The O line couldn't stop penetration or get a push off the line.

The RBs did not cut upfield even when they had a chance.

The QB was baited into interceptions.

The receivers did surprisingly better than I expected. They need someone that can get them the ball.

And every single man needs to own all the mistakes.

This loss was due to both coaching and effort. Physical ability cannot cover those issues past a point.

This feels like a crossroads.

Even outside of the turnovers, Milroe was just uncomfortable all night, OL had something to do with that but Milroe is not a pocket passer that can dissect a defense like a Bryce. He’s more of a Nick Marshall or freshman Hurts type QB which I believe we can win with but just gonna have to take Rees to realize that if Milroe is gonna be the QB going forward.

Against good teams, we can't win with that approach, because JM isn't even really Marshall or Freshman Hurts. Those guys could hit the fast read intermediate routes if the D keyed on blowing up the mesh point on the zone reads. JM hsn't yet shown he can do that. Unless he can get the ball out faster, that type of offense won't work.

I wonder of Rees wanted Buchner to play/start.
I wonder if the team has confidence in Milroe especially receivers.
Man, just a lot of the same problems as the last 3 years plus now a QB problem.
It starts at the top and I wonder if he's not seeing them, or making the wrong adjustments.
Oh, and I think all the talk about "anxiety" the last couple years originated from the top too.
I'm done for tonight. I'm thinking too much.

Not going to lie I’m pretty depressed right now.

There is just way WAY too many fundamental problems team wide for me to think they can be eliminated over the course of this season.

Will Reichard and a few of the WRs seem the only ones who played a clean game.

And Honestly this is about the same quality of play as 2021-22 just without Bryce and Homerun threats like Jamo, Metchie, and Gibbs to cover a lot up with explosive plays.

We are still sloppy and soft.

That OL hype was straight garage talk.

I think… I think the Reign/Run is over.

Whether we go off a cliff or not remains to be seen but the Tip Top Apex run is done.

I’m sick about it.
Thats what I don't get. This actually should be on paper a fantastic coaching staff. My god Kevin steele was forcing the defensive players to do UP Downs every time they got a penalty. And they still got 9 penalties or whatever tonight. My god what does it take??

Wolford was a success at a different team in the same conference with less talent. But our O-line is out there eating paint chips. I don't think he just totally starting sucking overnight.

Well, if anyone remembers them showing the top 10 (I think) tonight, all were playing cupcakes but us. TX was ranked 11 if I remember correctly. They took advantage of youth and mistakes. And new coordinators trying to correct past issues.

you're thinking about the famous 1DL, 3OLB packaging and that did happen for sure, but above and beyond thant, believe it or not, there were times that Golding out have 2 bigs, or DL on one side of the formation, with one of them trying to play as an edge player, then have Anderson playing over the OG/OT gap, and and OLB outside of him. It was absolutely ridiculous.
It feels like we outsmart ourselves with this junk. It’s too late in his tenure to make the switch now but I hope the next coach runs a straight up 4-2-5 all the time with one of the linebackers an overgrown safety. That’s what the nfl seems to be moving to

the intermediate throws are the hardest to make as a qb at any level. There’s starting qbs in the nfl who shy away from those. Problem is if you aren’t accurate in the short nor the intermediate well….that’s a wrap on your offensive. Milroe’s arm isn’t strong nor accurate enough to stretch a d. He’s got a decent deep ball sometimes but even then He’s erratic. If I’m the coordinator we are introducing an option game tomorrow and we are going 60 40 run pass

ok, but the RPO is really tied to the QB being able to hit that short or intermediate route quickly if the mesh is defended, and we haven't seen JM do that.

Well, our problem seems to stem from this is the offense and defense that see each other in practice. We dont have QBs or OL that can challenge our D. The fact we had reports this offense was running the ball on our D are now troubling.

We had to spend so much time working basic concepts for 3 different QBs likely didnt help any of the units improve except for the kickers are who are not involved in the scrimmages.

let’s review:

2020: national champions.
2021: national runner-up.
2022: 11 wins. Miss playoffs for only the second time.

Disappointing game? Absolutely
Perspective? Please.
Let's be honest, 2020 really is an asterisk. We hate it, but so many teams couldn't play or had large numbers of player missing due to Covid protocols, etc. It is what it is, but it's not the same as 2017.

Let me ask you this - does Alabama over the last few years look like Alabama from 2009-2017?

It doesn't to me.

Ditto, we’re a basketball school now
Tonight reminded me of Mark Gottfried. A coach who simply refused to make adjustments when Plan A wasn’t working. And that aint CNS. I will literally never understand why people try to make players something they’re not. If you are going to die on the hill with Milroe then scheme the offense around him. Not matter how many times you get sacked, throw interceptions, or miss open WRs all of the field dropping back and saying, “I really am a pocker passer” doesn’t make it so.

Well, that's really what our 3DL, 1 OLB and 2 ILB package has been for most of it's existence and is the basis for everything we do in nickel, which is like 85% of our defense, with dime being the other 15%. it's only this season that Steele seems to be playing that grouping more like a 3-3 instead of a 4-2. I wasn't a Golding fan at all, but he did run that grouping more like the 4-2 alignment most of the time. Goldings achilles was that he ran a 4-2 alignment from a 2DL and 2 OLB grouping too often which meant we were undersized versus a run play.

I want my po’d coach and players back. Of course given the easy transfer for pay these days he’d probably lose more guys than he motivated.

excellence has to come from within. Inspiration from outside yourself. Are these guys ok with what’s happening?
Probably not as upset with losing as they should be with the $$$ they are making now.
