To be fair there is substance.

He took a bunch of random portal kids and has coached them to a 3-0 start.

They are playing with a lot of heart and resilience and have a pretty good offense considering the context.

I get that Prime’s personality rubs some people wrong but that aside what he had done at Colorado so far is impressive imo
His personality is and always has been the same, but give him credit: he’s on track to win more games that’s what everybody thought initially. If 2-3 years pass by and Coach Saban decides to throw up the ✌🏾, make Prime a offer he can’t refuse.

This is the reason Alabama will fall into mediocrity when Saban retires.
I think it's bigger than that, the SEC dominated college football because of the talent pool in the south and because money was not allowed in the recruiting process. Now that it is you're going to see all the power shifting to the big money states, Texas, California, New York, wherever money is limitless you're going to find de-facto NFL teams coached by big personalities like Sanders and the rest of college football will exist only to give them a schedule to play. Saban will be part of a nostalgic period prior to Money Ball.

We need to get Sanders when Coach Saban retires.

I’m not ready to crown Prime anything just yet, but I’m also not writing him off as a fluke either.

The absolute refusal to entertain the idea, the refusal to change with the landscape will be the reason for the fall.
Let's stand back and watch what happens.

Lots of hype after 3 games, but what happens after 3 years?

Alexander, I think Bama will make better decisions in the post CNS era than we did after Coach Bryant. If that means Coach Prime is the best, I think we'd entertain that.

I think right now, though, we'd target guys like Sark, Kiffin and Napier in the CNS tree but not limit it to other proven commodities that are out there and if that is someone like Sanders then why not?

I meant the sheer absolute arrogance to not entertain the idea of hiring someone who at the moment appears to have a hold on what it’s going to take to succeed in the new environment of college football.

Sanders will be the face of the program and he will hire coaches to coach behind the scenes. Whether or not he can maintain a program is what will be the biggest difference between he and Saban.

He's "hot" right now. I don't know how he's got time to coach and recruit with all the time he's spending doing commercials.

I'll say this: like him or hate him, he knows how to promote his "brand" and program.

BTW, I saw a portion of his 60 Minutes interview and he said some arrogant things but also some nice things about his respect for CNS, which he learned, ironically, thru the Aflac shoots.

Maybe we should change the title for this thread...it seems to be all about Coach Prime.

Re the question of who follows Saban (which also involves the question of whether Saban's coaching style fits with the modern generation of college players), we should probably keep in mind that at least in part, Bama floundered to a certain extent by insisting on HC what were part of the Bear Bryant tree for quite some time.

There came a point in time where that became at best irrelevant, and at worst, detrimental.

It is possible that in order to keep pace with the rest of the college football post-Saban, we may need to accept that it will take a new breed of coach that is much more like a Deion Sanders than a Nick Saban.

I'm not saying it should be Sanders, but it may require someone whose personality and coaching style are dramatically different from what many of us are accustomed to, or even comfortable with.

Are we seriously talking about replacing the greatest coach in football history with a clown that has won 3 games as a P5 head coach?
Idk if Sanders will get to the point where he is a viable hire or not but I don't think he's a clown. If you actually listen to a lot of his interviews he says a lot of the right things, seems to know what he is talking about and clearly has a lot of respect for Saban.

Again, he would need to show a lot more to become a viable hire but there are quite a few things that I like about him.

I may be reading him wrong but I do not see Sanders becoming an aggie for any amount of money. He will stay in Boulder until he makes serious noise, at least 2-3 years. Then, he will either go to a Blue Blood or the NFL.
He's said there is no way he's ever going to the NFL. Said he doesn't think he could motivate a bunch of millionaires and likes working with kids. Sounds familiar tbh

I am in no way ready to say that it's time for Saban to go watch the ducks !@!@!@ on the lawn, but looking to the future, it seems that whether any of us like it or not, the future of college football HC's is trending more towards the Kiffin/Sanders style than the Saban style.

No, we’re talking about the sheer arrogance of Alabama fans shutting the door before it’s even opened.

At least that’s what I’m talking about.

I don’t disagree with your clown assessment, but college football is becoming a circus.
