Bluntly: Simply a guess based on what I do know.

1) Simpson lost the team in the fall/spring. He'll never win the team or win certain players on THIS team.
2) Saban knows Simpson is the better QB for the system, the better talent, etc
3) Saban was hoping that Simpson would win the team over-- did not happen
4) Saban went with JM b/c of #3-- and b/c he believes that leadership, etc all is important
5) After texas loss-- Saban made the change we all knew needed to be made. Milore clearly isnt the guy that can take us to places we all want to go
6) Team meeting occurred-- players didnt like the change-- hence saban having to back up this by telling the media if you play bad you lose your job, etc
7) JM and others reacted very poorly do this-- JM being the worst
8) JM suspended
9) Saban went with TB b/c he again had won the team more than TS- again TS wont win this team
10) after TB wet the bed to the point we almost lose--Then and only then did he go with TS
11) Once it was clear that TS would be the QB or could be the QB---- see #12
12) Another team meeting happened
13) Team made point #1 clear
14) Saban reverts back to Milroe and we all move forward hoping the best

So Saban talks about getting people on the bus:

He made the decision that there are more players on the JM bus and he thinks its easier to fix the driver of this bus

Rather than trying to get people on the bus with TS-- even though he's the better driver going the right direction.

Why didn't Ty Simpson win the team.. .what did he say or do?

Sure I think that's valid. But then why are we even talking about it like Saban has lost control of the team? If anything that would imply Simpson has done something that lost his teammates confidence and Saban is doing the right thing?

I am not in the group that thinks Saban has lost control of the team. But not everyone agrees with me - go figure! One of the other posters did say Simpson did something ot lose the team - but did not elaborate on what that was...

No source and i know this board hates rumors, but I’m hearing Milroe is the #3.

Saban didn’t cave in 2017 to players. He was forced to make the switch because Daboll forced him.

Either way there doesn't seem to be any precedent of Saban giving in to player demands on who to start at QB.

One of the other poster said something very public happened with Simpson and the team and it caused some huge rift. Does anyone know what that was? If it was public it would not be rumor mongering or anything. I would love to know what happened as it seems to have bearing on the current situation.

I'd like to know this also, if it has been made public.

Coach Bryant was only in his mid 50s during that '67-'70 dip, whereas Saban is older than Coach Bryant was in '82.

The landscape has changed dramatically over the past 40 years in "college" football. And, while I appreciate all that Saban has accomplished, Greg Byrne has to look at the overall health of the program, with the realization that 2-3 subpar years could lead to another 2-3 years of trying to regain what was lost.

My guess is that Coach Saban is in as good shape at 71 as Coach Bryant was at 60. But I was not really addressing age. But Coach Bryant was definitely charged with being over the hill in the late 60s, when he was in his mid-late 50s. The billboard(s) did appear with that slogan - I was a teenager and shocked. I was just referencing the disrespect from many in the fan base.

I agree completely that the landscape has changed significantly. I also agree that Byrne is responsible for the overall health of the program. But I was not addressing his actions, though he will likely be affected by the fan base, though mostly the big-monied boosters. As it should be. He will have to walk a fine line. But I'm more confident in him than some in the fan base. We see it in this thread. And for the most part, these are not fringe fans, or people who want to tear the program down. Just concerned fans that can lose sight of the big picture if they are not careful.

I'm not appealing to anyone to stop respectful criticism. I agree with some of it and offer some myself. I'm just talking about keeping the overall tone grateful and respectful. And more directly related to this thread: don't begin running with opinion and speculation and assumption, as though they are fact.

I personally believe if JM was suspended CNS should have said it and it would remove a lot of the questions. .

It doesn’t matter if Saban admits he suspended Milroe. There’s still no logical explanation for Milroe continuing to be the starter moving forward. Either he was benched because he sucks or he was suspended because of his attitude. Either one is enough to move forward with another QB.

I don't want to get in this type of argument at all. But it was all over TiderInsider that Buchner was starting and Simpson was likely coming in second and that Milroe wasn't going to play in the game by noon on Friday (maybe earlier).

I have no idea who does and doesn't have sources though.

You can say the QBs played poorly..but did you see what was happening on the QBs side of the LoS? Some of these folks seem to think that a sack is always the QB's fault. The OL has been bad for every QB. It was definitely worse at points vs USF but some (not all) of the sacks were on the QBs, specifically Ty.

Didn't Saban allude to a possible switch in his halftime quickie interview? (I could be wrong.)

Don't you think that it is possible that CNS finally saw enough of Jalen to make him want or at least be willing to make the switch? How could Daboll force CNS? The only leverage I can see him having, would be a threat to cease calling plays if Jalen remained.

Maybe. My opinion is that he was a leader on and off the field with his play, his attitude, etc. Never got in trouble. I think the "anxiety" issue was because Golding didn't prepare the linebackers/defense on what to do and when to do it. Maybe they didn't have confidence in themselves or Golding during game time. Not sure.

mho is that a bunch of armchair qbs are overreacting to the word anxiety
