The 10 false starts are not on the center ( unless he false starts) or the QB, this is a mental thing, a lot of times the lineman are trying to get a jump because they are afraid of getting beat to their block
When Dalcourt was center the whole OL was really bad. Every time Seth came in the OL played better the past few years.
Also as bamadwain said the false starts aren't on the center. Though I think he did have one snap infraction
All but Tyler Booker were flagged on Saturday for pre-snap penalties. It was expected entering the game that running the ball would be a challenge, but penalties on first down and in short-yardage situations, especially in the first half, forced the offense’s hand a bit to go away from the run. Crowd noise played a factor, which led to a silent count, meaning Booker would tap Seth McLaughlin to let him know when to snap the ball.
But a wrinkle by Texas A&M threw a wrench in that plan.
“As soon as the guard tapped the center, they’d stem and move the front,†Saban said. “Which is not illegal. It was perfectly a good thing for them to do on their part, and we had numerous times where guys flinched. Because, when you go on silent, there is no snap count.
“One of the advantages of playing offense is you know what the snap count is. So you know when you get off the ball. Well, when it’s so noisy, and you have to go on silent, you lose that advantage. And if we’re going to do that in the future, we obviously need to practice it more so our players don’t get spooked by a moving defense because everybody’s got to sort of go on the ball.â€Â
I don't remember Dalcourt being the problem when he was the center. Why did we change the OL assignment?
This has nothing to do with false starts and has probably been discussed several times in another thread but I missed it. Why do you guys think Latham wasn’t moved to left tackle this year? Seems like most years past we would slide the experienced right tackle to the left side.
When you have booker at LG, Seth at C.. and Dalcourt on that line, They probably wanted freshmen at LT.. to develop. lot of answers we may not know. This is the right lineup just need to get experience in and block run better. This has nothing to do with false starts and has probably been discussed several times in another thread but I missed it. Because Dalcourt couldn't communicate and make the line calls. Seth McLaughlin communicates and blocks better. The snap issues had to do with a wrist injury, but the coaches would still rather it be him vs Dalcourt. The line actually blocked better Saturday vs the Aggies with Dalcourt on the bench (pass blocking). There were a couple of missed blocking assignments by Jaedon Roberts that led to runs getting stuffe, but he did pretty darn good for a rookie sophmore in the big lightsI don't remember Dalcourt being the problem when he was the center.
