I don't remember Dalcourt being the problem when he was the center. Why did we change the OL assignment?

Correct, but more nuance to it vs. decibel level of 108K at College Station - a 'Bama-aTm film study article just now in The Athletic lets Saban explain it all for you. Which he does in doggone meticulous detail. Didn't absolve the O-line, but didn't need to, either, based on how his explanation for what was happening with Booker making the snap "calls" by tapping McLaughlin and aTm IL "stemming down" in reax to the tap.

This has nothing to do with false starts and has probably been discussed several times in another thread but I missed it. Why do you guys think Latham wasn’t moved to left tackle this year? Seems like most years past we would slide the experienced right tackle to the left side.
 
All but Tyler Booker were flagged on Saturday for pre-snap penalties. It was expected entering the game that running the ball would be a challenge, but penalties on first down and in short-yardage situations, especially in the first half, forced the offense’s hand a bit to go away from the run. Crowd noise played a factor, which led to a silent count, meaning Booker would tap Seth McLaughlin to let him know when to snap the ball.

But a wrinkle by Texas A&M threw a wrench in that plan.

“As soon as the guard tapped the center, they’d stem and move the front,” Saban said. “Which is not illegal. It was perfectly a good thing for them to do on their part, and we had numerous times where guys flinched. Because, when you go on silent, there is no snap count.

“One of the advantages of playing offense is you know what the snap count is. So you know when you get off the ball. Well, when it’s so noisy, and you have to go on silent, you lose that advantage. And if we’re going to do that in the future, we obviously need to practice it more so our players don’t get spooked by a moving defense because everybody’s got to sort of go on the ball.”

NFL Rules on Clap Snaps

This article mentions the defense has the advantage with clap snaps because they can see the QB's hands move anticipating the snap whereas the OL is listening for a sound which reduces reaction time.

In the NFL, a fake clap is like a balk in baseball.

DD had some real challenges at OC. Like others mentioned, as soon as SM came in, the entire OL was better. He's a better OG than OC, but realistically we were also better against ATM because DD was out and Roberts was playing.

Got no answers for this one. I thought for sure we'd move JC over there and keep Booker at RG to help out a new RT. As you alluded to, it's really been the way most of our guys have progressed during Sabans tenure.

When you have booker at LG, Seth at C.. and Dalcourt on that line, They probably wanted freshmen at LT.. to develop. lot of answers we may not know. This is the right lineup just need to get experience in and block run better.

Because Dalcourt couldn't communicate and make the line calls. Seth McLaughlin communicates and blocks better. The snap issues had to do with a wrist injury, but the coaches would still rather it be him vs Dalcourt. The line actually blocked better Saturday vs the Aggies with Dalcourt on the bench (pass blocking). There were a couple of missed blocking assignments by Jaedon Roberts that led to runs getting stuffe, but he did pretty darn good for a rookie sophmore in the big lights

I'd debate Dalcourt being the right lineup. I think the only reason he was allowed to come back for this year (covid year) was because Cohen left. Roberts did better than DD, and realistically Roberts was behind Ferg.

Having KP in the lineup might be the right thing, but it still begs to ask, why not put him at RT to develop first so he's not quite as exposed as an LT often is and have JC swap sides.
