The 2024 DNC primary thread

Honest question: are headlines like this popping up all at once because of the media's set pattern of parroting each others' crap or is it beginning to feel like a coordinated effort by powerful people to create change in an attempt to avoid an outcome they clearly don't want? Everyone here knows that I hate the media with the white-hot heat of a supernova, but I'm asking a good-faith question here. What does your gut tell you?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I have another:

If the polling and reporting are accurate, what is wrong with people?

the media wants a close race to report on. we saw similar in the lead up to the 22 midterms
You are grasping at straws. The media wants a crushing Biden win. I’m stunned by this poll. If the race is a referendum on Biden he will lose. If it is a referendum on Trump he will lose. The world feels like it’s on fire and Biden’s in the White House. That falls in his lap even if it’s not all his fault. If Trump would just be quiet or only yell Biden sucks he would probably win if he’s not in jail. I’m hoping he’s in jail and someone else runs against Biden. A different candidate will destroy Biden. Haley would absolutely wipe him out. Desantis would beat him as well.

Part of that poll that was really bad for Biden showed that only 32% of people felt they were better off with Biden and his policies and 52% said they were better off with Trump.

I don't know how to react to what I am seeing. How would you classify Steve Schmidt? I view his comments. It gets my attention and that is a great understatement!

That's a mighty big "if", IMO and part of the reason I posed the question in the first place. But to answer your question: people are incredibly ignorant/misinformed and I genuinely believe this is by design. I refuse to accept that a majority of Americans were born with some innate disability for thinking critically.

To be fair, the 22 mid-terms were a hell of a lot closer than many were expecting. I suppose it's possible they just got lucky, but I am skeptical.

no. i think it’s a meaningless poll 1 year out that is designed to do exactly what it is doing.
All polls are snap shots of a moment, but when you look at them over time they start to tell a story if the polling is decent and the pollsters take samples that do a good job reflecting the electorate. The story so far is that Biden is a weak candidate and the economy and foreign policy aren’t his friends right now in the eyes of the voters. He needs to turn that around in a hurry before it’s too late.

He’s only got 12 months before the election and some things will bake in sooner than that in voters minds. Screaming Trumps bad may not be enough and it’s becoming clear from a collection of polls that the electorate isn’t buying what he’s selling. Just look at his approval numbers over time.

Good post, but I think it's worth pointing out that Biden could get pulled down due to his "guilt by association" with the far-left. It's no secret in Washington that Biden has done the best he can to placate these people while balancing it out with more moderate positions/decisions. This Israel/Hamas thing could not have come at a worse time with so many on the far-left openly siding with Hamas.

Just last week, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre pointedly declined to say if the President had any plans to speak to the explosion of antisemitism among university students. The anti-Zionist movement could very well become an albatross around his neck. There aren't enough Jews in this country to really swing an election, but there are more than enough Israel supports to do just that. It will be interesting to see how he tip-toes through this minefield.

I'm curious as to what you base these predictions on.

Well said, and the Hamas issue isn’t going away quickly. If the IDF has to go house to house and tunnel to tunnel it will be a long slog that will stay in the headlines more than Ukraine ever could because you have the oppressed and oppressor narrative for the left and left wing media to grab onto and nothing keeps people fired up more than Israel and antisemitism in general. I’m stunned at how much antisemitism is rearing it’s head. I knew it was out there but how much has caught me off guard.

A majority voted against Trump in 2020, so you are likely correct; however, a majority of votes is not required - just a majority of electoral college votes.

I believe it was that same poll that looked at Biden vs a generic Republican and he was losing worse. Put a candidate without Trump’s baggage, like Haley, and it would be a run away. People don’t like either candidate. Give them another option and see what happens. There is one poll out there with RFK jr. at 22 percent. It may be an outlier I don’t know, but if he was really at 10% that should tell you how dissatisfied many are with there choices. RFK jr. is borderline a fringe conspiracy guy.

The never Bideners in this thread are more concerned about his election chances than those of us who think he's doing a good job.
This is a political discussion board and we are discussing politics and it seems you are in the minority of people that view Biden’s job performance in that way. It’s interesting to discuss a poll like this. Who is the next president affects everyone if you like Biden or not.

People are always dissatisfied with their choices.

And they often support a 3rd party candidate...until they don't.

(I voted for Johnson in 2016 because there was no way I would vote for Trump in a million years and couldn't quite bring myself to vote for HC, not that it really mattered here in CA - thus my "throwaway vote" in protest)

I have my doubts that Haley or Desantis would energize the base like Trump.

Any republican that has not denounced the maga wing is a threat to the nation, and doubly so those who are part of that movement to destroy democratic representative constitutional rule.
