(I voted for Johnson in 2016 because there was no way I would vote for Trump in a million years and couldn't quite bring myself to vote for HC, not that it really mattered here in CA - thus my "throwaway vote" in protest)

I have my doubts that Haley or Desantis would energize the base like Trump.

Any republican that has not denounced the maga wing is a threat to the nation, and doubly so those who are part of that movement to destroy democratic representative constitutional rule.

The base is going to turn out for the Republican candidate. If Trump is thrown in jail, and I think that’s likely, the base will crawl over hot glass to vote against Biden. Just like the democrat base did to vote against Trump in 2020.

Time will tell.

As it will tell how enthusiastic democrat voters are.

Desantis is about as bad as Trump, so I surely hope that's not the case.

And Haley isn't much better, if at all.

And the more likely Trump - barring a miracle disqualification from the ballot that holds where it matters - would be a complete disaster as well, of course.

The polls got 2022 just as wrong as they got 2016, so I don't have much confidence in them either way.

Turnout will be the decider, it seems.

He’s only got 12 months before the election and some things will bake in sooner than that in voters minds. Screaming Trumps bad may not be enough and it’s becoming clear from a collection of polls that the electorate isn’t buying what he’s selling. Just look at his approval numbers over time.

Here are the poll questions that would mean something to me. If the election were tomorrow, and the candidates are Biden and Trump, 1)how likely are you to vote and 2) which candidate will you vote for?

So I'll ask you. If the election is tomorrow, will you vote for Biden or Trump?

Actually, CNN said the question was also put with the condition that Trump is convicted on the Jan. 6 issue and it flipped from a 3 pt Trump lead to a 9 pt Biden lead, so there is some softness in his base, a final limit...

I'm surprised there is a limit - and more surprised that anyone who would change their mind hasn't already.

I can't wrap my head around a competent mind that would have a jury's verdict change their mind but not the mountain of evidence in front of their eyes that he is guilty.

Are they openly siding with Hamas, or are they openly with Palestinians who are being killed by indiscriminate attacks?

I pointed out that it’s a political board because you didn’t seem to understand that. I wanted to make sure you knew where you were.

Maybe they aren’t doomed, but if someone other than Trump is on the ballot I would bet everything I own on that person winning. Trump may doom himself with his mouth as I said earlier even if he’s not in jail. The focus hasn’t been on trump lately. The focus has been Biden and you see the results in the NYT poll.

No we don’t. I was done with the Trumpster when he wouldn’t concede the election and lost his mind. It is possible to be right of center and not like Trump. I know that may explode your little world view, but it is actually true. Not everyone to the right of you is some enemy of democracy or whatever other boogeyman you create in your head so you can feel better about yourself.

Can someone explain why these stupid polls never ask about independent/third-party candidates? Seems relevant considering that I can see how most Arab voters would likely vote for West over Biden. And lets not forget how many people on the far-right would totally vote for RFK if Agent Orange isn't on the ballot.

I recognize you don't like Trump.

I do not see you as an enemy of democracy.

The "we both know better" was with regards to whether or not I know this is a political board. I'm asking with respect that you not pursue this argument any further. We both know better.

The problem is optics.

This happened:

It sure does "look like" support for the attack on Israel to me.....and I'm sure a lot of other people too.......
