I don't remember who was playing center at any given time. Was it Dalcourt or McLaughlin with the shotgun snaps that were hard to handle, or both?

what NFL team wants a center who will randomly snap the ball over their qbs head in critical situations?
It’s early but he’s rated as #4 center in 2024 draft. I don’t make the projections, but Draft Buzz is legit. I’ll update this as additional information becomes available.

I know he had an injury that impacted his pistol snap.

But it's been a problem all year. Even when it's not a fumble it's often a high, low or wide right type snap.

Unless he's just got super small hands that can't grip the ball, this ought to be fixable though.

Honestly, if I was playing center, I would set up a tire in my backyard and snap footballs through it 100 times/day until I could not miss. As a center, you can be a world-beater at every other center task, but if you cannot get the snap reliably to the QB, you are a liability.
He has gotten better, but early in the season, snaps were an adventure.

Agree on the skill part, but SM was pretty solid last year. This year the wrist injury an I think a little bit of worrying about what was going on to his right impacted things. Since he's recovered and gone back to his original form, and Roberts has stepped into the RG role, SM has gotten back to being pretty reliable

I'm glad there was an explanation and glad he is feeling better.
The job of center is up there with QB in terms of the physical skills required and the mental acuity as to who will be doing what post-snap.
But it all starts with the snap.

He cleaned that up in the last few games. The Auburn game is not all on him. One of the Barner secondary did an illegal clap that caused the errant snap at the end of the game.
And right before half time at Ole Miss, and again against someone else I'm pretty sure.

Does he have a Covid year available? There isn’t someone ready to step in at his level rn. Would be nice to have him and our guards back. Or a grad transfer or a portal transfer. Dalcourt is gone for sure after this year and the next guy weighs 270 something still

Yes - SM has a fifth year of eligibility due to 2020 Covid exemption.

We’ll have 3 OL back. 4 with SM if he elects to return.

While he has had some bad snaps they are not always on him. I know a couple were on the inexperience of JM and the AU clap one. That said the scouts are also looking at the presnap reads and his blocking which have been solid. He can iron out the snap stuff and I would bet after a full season he and JM won’t have the same issues next season if he returns.

Most were entirely his fault, but when he went to the dead snap things improved.

Its been a problem before too. After we found out how well he did in SECCG with Bryce, there was discussion here and someone mentioned the reason he didnt play earlier was becos of inconsistent snap in practice
