I understand Seth has another year of eligibility, but I don't think any of us can take another year of that.

Can we diagnose what the problem is? Terrible hand/eye coordination that can't consistly snap the ball 5 yards back? No touch (most of his snaps are rockets!)? Small hands? To this day, I don't understand how this problem wasn't fixed after games 1-3!!!

What do we do? Rinse and repeat? Any recruit coming in as a center? Prolly go to portal?

Brockermeyer is here, but he’s smaller than Seth. Seth’s errors happened when he had to one on one a guy bigger than him. He rushed things, put pressure on himself, and it was a terrible cycle that repeated itself.

I think they will take one of these massive guards and hope they learn how to snap.

Or like mentioned in another thread, find one of the 1000 HS kids that can snap a ball…

We have played with smaller centers in the past but if JB is smaller that doesn't bode well for him replacing SM.

I mean, how bad were our backup centers this year for us not to make a change at some point???

yeah - the perplexing thing is that Seth had ZERO of these problems in the two prior years. Going against the best DL he faced against UGA two years ago in his first start - no problems at all. In 2022 once he finally started, again no problems at all. Both those seasons he was a significant upgrade over DD.

This season - no clue what was going on, not only with the snaps not being on target, but sometimes snapping the ball when it seemed like JM wasn't ready. I find it curious also that last night, the sideline reporter said that Saban told JM to take some responsibility for the bad snaps also. Even not being a fan of JM, I'm not sure how that plays out unless it's that he's just not getting the offense set quickly enough for the OL to make their adjustments and that's creating even more of a scenario where Seth is rushing things...

Glanced at the portal over on 247 and there wasn't a ton of highly rated talent on the interior OL that remained uncommitted. One four star from GT, a 3 star from vandy and one from Wisky. Maybe there will be a higher rated center enter the portal soon? Maybe we start actively pursuing a guy who is not in the portal like so many other teams apparently do? Who knows?

But really the most important thing is to get whomever is the best OL coach in the world to come to Bama and teach these guys and get them to live up to their potential. Too many times the OL are out of position, two or three guys blocking the same DL and two other DL are untouched and kill the QB or tackle the RB for loss.

correct, he replaced DD. Behind them is Brockmeyer, who was recruited as an OC, but just has not been able to put on enough weight to contend for the role.

Others are right though, if SM does come back, he's got to get this fixed or we have to find someone else. If he can get back to 2022 form, he'll be just fine...

Where did the other Brockermeyer end up? Didn’t we take the pair to get the one that ended up leaving?

some of the communication stuff goes back to the QB. The center is supposed to make the OL adjustments, but once he touches the ball, he has a really hard time seeing the entire D to know if he has to adjust. The QB should be making some calls at the line, and/or if the OTs see something to the outside, they need to make calls over to the center, and then the OC adjusting the OL calls to that and making sure the other 4 guys get it and are on the same page.

TCU I think. I don't think he's playing though. Yes, we took the pair really hoping for the OT as he was the 5* - same year as Latham IIRC. TB was supposed to a can't miss guy, but never got and stayed healthy.

I won’t disagree that Seth was awful. But part of the qb‘s responsibility is being ready for the snap. Once he claps his eyes should not be to the sideline. There were a couple of snaps where Milroe could have caught it but was not paying one bit of attention.
