Bama Game Thread: Official Postgame Thread - Bama vs. Michigan...

I found that to be one of the more crushing defeats in my years as a Bama fan. Clemson destroyed us in 2017. That one hurt. But, Clemson also had a stud QB and really good players all over the field. Georgia beat us in 2021 but since we didn't have Metchie, Williams (got hurt early in game) and our 2 starting corners, that one hurt less.

This one was different. Bama had more talent. Not even close. Michigan was better prepared and out schemed Bama most of the game. That was frustrating. Watching Michigan drive the field with under 4 minutes to go to tie the game up was excruciating to watch. I really thought we had won the game. Didn't think they had a chance to drive the field and tie it up.

I don't know where you go from here. I really don't. Milroe is not a national championship winning QB. Sorry, he isn't. And do you see game changing wide receivers out there? Can we field a o-line that gels from the get go and dominates a game? Do we ever have a somewhat dominating defense again? I feel bummed.
How do you know what kind of receivers Alabama has? Do you know receivers who can get open thirty yards down the field in umbrella coverage?

Michigan was not going to get beat deep, which is part of what taking away What Milroe does.

Question: In OT, on the 3rd down pass to Burton, did anyone else think he was being held prior to the ball arriving? I could see it either way.
Given some of the keystone cops exhibitions we’ve seen with SEC crews, I thought it was a pretty clean “let them play” game. I thought they missed a couple of holding calls (one on Turner and one on Ebiogbe) but thought for the most part they did a decent job.
Yes. The DB pulled his jersey.

The refs did "let them play" for the most part. But there were some egregious calls missed. Roughing the punter on UM, which would have extended a drive for us, missed false start on UM's first TD, and missed facemask on UM which would have extended another drive for us.

They missed several holds on UM's OL. I don't think they missed any holds on our OL because our OL was getting knocked on its rear for the most part. They did miss a tackle out of bounds on us, but it was on UM's last drive and did not keep them from scoring.

I don't think they favored either team that much but some of the misses on UM would have really helped us out. I can't say they would have made a difference in the outcome because we shot ourselves in the foot so much and UM dominated the LOS so often in the game.
I agree on the Burnip call. Would have extended the drive. And one hold on Dallas Turner was on the flea flicker throw back to their QB which they hit downfield. THAT was one no one should miss because the Michigan LT fully extended his left arm away from his body in order to “grab and hook” Turner.

All of that said, officiating didn’t cost us this game. I agree with what @81usaf92 said in an earlier post. Our players were talking about sign stealing, catapult and iPads, and previous coaches “opinions”, while the Michigan team came there to take care of business.

The Team is about to takeoff to head back to Tuscaloosa from LA. It is sad to note that the flight was originally schedule from LA to Houston. :(
I may get flamed for this, but I think we must've spent most of the 2.5 weeks prior preparing for Texas.

We looked like we had a vanilla game plan that would typically beat a B1G team. IRONically, it's the same thing we did in the IRON bowl. Did we actually think UM was worse than the Barn???

I think we weren't ready/prepared to play this game because we thought we had it won.

When Nick Saban says publicly that they only prep for one game at a time, I tend to believe him. Not trying to flame here but I heard him answer that question with my own ears. There’s just too much to do to win one game to be prepping for 2.

Overall I'm very pleased with the season. Early on I thought we might lose 4 games. But we improved each week and made it to the playoffs. An amazing coaching job, IMHO.

We lost this game because we got whipped on the LOS. Plain and simple. Milroe had no time to throw. We couldn't establish the running game. And on defense, they neutralized our edge rushers and took away our ability to pressure their QB.

I think this is probably the 4 most evenly matched teams I've ever seen in the playoffs. It would be a toss-up on any of the matchups.

I guess we still haven't gotten over the fact that Milroe is the best we have at his position. They do scrimmage in practice and others get "reps" that way. I don't want to beat that horse anymore. But, unless someone shows up with a golden arm in the Spring and Summer, he will be our QB again. Hopefully, there will be improvement.

I said during the first two games in the game threads that we had issues snapping the ball and it reared it's ugly head again. It's actually been an issue all year. When your QB has to get down in a catcher's stance to field the snap, there is an issue! Throws the timing off completely.

And that's all I've got to say about that! On to next year! RTR!

An unpopular take - even though we beat UGA in the SEC Championship i think they are the best team in CFB and would have 3-peated if they were in. We played our best game and prevented it..small consolation

the practice comment is one i have too...surely we have our elite pass rushers go against this OL so they can pick up blitzes etc? Can scheme against defenses who play a certain way? I would hope those are at game pace...100%...this should help the OL/QB get better, quicker etc...but we didnt so maybe we dont go all out in practice/scrimmages? Maybe due to injuries sustained in practice in prior seasons?...would love to be a fly on the wall and observe how we practice with the 1's against each other

I will believe it when/if I see it.
Here’s my thinking….with it and 6 bucks you can get a Starbucks…
If Sayin lights up the spring and outshines JM by an obvious margin (meaning they both don’t do equally well), then if it stays that way through the fall, Sayin should start. He likely won’t, and at that point I will join the “time for Nick to hit the lake” crowd.
I say this knowing Saban’s reluctance to leave upper class leaders sitting, even though the newcomer is better. Hurts wasn’t turnover prone and was seldom rattled; Tua was more prone to turnovers. I get that, but…
Bama lost two games this year - his two interceptions against Texas were the difference in the game. Against Michigan, the blame definitely wasn’t all his, but choosing to run into the pile was.
JM lost his last start - if Bama had won it all I’d say he almost has to start the first game next fall. If Sayin outplays him from now until then and doesn’t start, or at least take over when JM falters (and he will unless they get big production from WR’s and RB’s), then Nick should retire.
it’s about putting the best 11 on the field - he hasn’t always done that but now, with competition what it is, he can ill afford not to.

With our center, the starting QB is also the starting shortstop
