This was not a spur of the moment decision. Knowing Saban, the wheels have been turning for a while behind the scene. Don't think he would leave abruptly without some sort of plan. I believe they have their man. We shall see.
This is what I think. He doesn’t pull the trigger after the first signing period unless the successor is all but a done deal.

I keep hearing Lanning's name. $20 million is a hefty buyout, though. I didn't realize we had that much extra money lying around.

Based the Byrne's previous search in basketball, I would not be surprised if it ends up being a name no one has mentioned. He flew under the radar during the search, keeping it to himself and not hiring an outside firm, and even made a comment that if any coach talks about being considered for the job, they would no longer be considered for it. I remember that CNO had given a "thumbs up" to some comment about the job search before that statement came out and then he removed it. That hire was totally unexpected but ended up being not too shabby. Based on the prior search, I am cautiously optimistic this time around as well.

In honesty, I am sad that a legend has left football. Saban should have everyone’s respect

am I happy that the only coach to beat Kirby in 3 seasons is gone though? Yes… but that’s far from a “rub it in your face way”

Saban Has left an amazing mark on history
We've been lucky man. But luck runs out and that is certainly where we are now. May take us a decade or so but we will climb back on top with luck.
