Well, if that was 100% true than we would have lost Saban to Texas years ago when they made a run at him. Sometimes money isn't everything. I doubt Sark would leave as well but, I'd still make the call.

Might be undisclosed health related issues at play in this. Wouldn’t rule it out, may be part of the cause why he became more low key, less yelling and animated.

Very possible. Even my wife, the most non-football person I know, has been reading everything popping up about Coach. She read somewhere that health issues were one of the reasons he gave the team for retiring. He felt he could no longer give that 100%. If that's the case, I hope its nothing serious. Have a long, happy retirement Coach.

Yeah there isn't much lifestyle difference between 6,7,8,9 million a year. Big difference between 6 and 60, but the numbers we are talking about I'd think quality of life issues like "do i want to live in the pacific northwest vs the south east" or "do i want to play cross country in the cluster that is the BIG or play in the SEC where it is still regional" etc would come into play.

Well, I'm going to miss the GOAT and all they he did for BAMA. I do wish him a long, happy, healthy retirement, but part of me wishes he would have hung around one more year, just to get us thru the first round of the "new SEC". Best wishes Coach.

I have been in shock since yesterday. I am sad for Bama but happy for Coach Saban. I read tidefans through the coaching search and joined that first season Saban started coaching. It feels kinda surreal that it went by so fast. Thanks for the memories coach and I truly hope that you have a long, enjoyable retirement with your family.

I hope that whoever takes the job maintains what Saban has made clear that the head coach is in charge of the program.

My guess would be that between Byrne and the precedent we've had for the last (almost) two decades, booster meddling will remain less of an issue at Alabama than it was.

Not that I am poking fun at the situation. I am still getting over the shock of actually dealing with "I knew this day would come eventually" from yesterday. But having gone through this several times beginning with Coach Bryant stepping away in the Pre Internet days..... Are we sure this just wasn't a plot by TideFans to boost traffic in the offseason?? Because I am gonna be living on this board from here on out!

With all the NIL money floating around, and the players are free agents to choose during open signing period, its now a free for all unless a new college football rules managment system is created and installed. The NCAA if really uncontrolled system which need to be disbanded and a new system installed ( it wont happen in my lifetime).

Another note that really causes me anguish. When is it anyones right to speculate about Ms. Terry Sabans health. Shes not a member of the coaching staff etc. I would really appreciate all of you that are making guesses about her health should STOP. Its none of our business and the family will release what they want us to know.

I have now lived thru 2 college dynasties. Alabama is one of the most respected names in college football. I would love to continue that but we will go thru some bumps and growing pains with the new coach in the end we will still the The University of Alabama..

Seems like now it probably just "Give a bunch of money to the NIL collective" or "Pony up a few million for a buyout".

Both are legal now.
